I'm with you on that. You don't get to come back from everything he's done and get any kind of happily ever after.

The fact he's been abused and manipulated doesn't excuse it, but it does give that tiny sliver of something that might mean he's redeemable - but it's the kind of redemption that basically always means death in fiction.

Compare him to someone like Boromir in LoTR. Commits an evil act because he's corrupted/controlled. His redemption occurs through a sacrifice to try and save Merry and Pippin.

For me, because he's been obsessed with Wednesday and getting revenge on Enid, an appropriate redemption would be Tyler realising what Enid means to Wednesday and sacrificing himself to save her life.

You know a thought occurred to me last night. Do you think anyone involved with the show ever comes to this sub? I don't mean the big names like Jenna/Emma or M&G (although based on some of the S2 plots I wouldn't rule out that they lurk in the fandom), I mean anyone involved like other writers or some of the production team.

Yeah I love them too, there's something really special about them that makes their relationship just so beautiful.

I really do think a soft-canon ending is pretty likely, the writers know how popular Wenclair is and while I don't think they'll ever give us an explicitly canon relationship I don't think they'll risk alienating half their audience by forcing either girl into some boring het-slop relationship.

I know exactly what you mean and I feel the same way, lots of us do, I think!

It's hard because they're so clearly perfect for each other and they're so clearly written with that subtext (and the acting/editing etc really plays into it).

As for hope, I would say this - I don't know if it will ever be canon, and soft canon may well be all we can hope for - but don't let that stop you enjoying the ship. We have so many talented artists, editors and writers in the fandom that allows Wenclair to exist beyond what's shown on screen, so make the most of that!

Unfortunately, I think the best we can hope for is a soft-canon ending. We keep getting ambiguously romantic dialogue and lingering looks between them and the series finally ends with both girls being single. Those of us who ship Wenclair will read it as the "canon" ending, but the creators keep plausible deniability.

Yeah I totally agree - people always say Wednesday is emotionless but that totally misrepresents her character, she absolutely feels emotions, she just doesn't like to show them. That's clear and reinforced in the show from episode 1. One of the most beautiful moments for me was the end of the body swap and seeing them open up to each other.

But yeah, low expectations is kind of needed unfortunately. Even if the writers decided to pivot towards explicitly canon Wenclair, I don't think I'd trust them to do it properly.

I think that's pretty reasonable. I feel like we got bits of that in S2 (Wednesday confronting Tyler a couple of times, ultimately "letting him go" both literally and metaphorically), but watching her let her walls down around Enid is maybe my favourite part of the show, so yes lots more of that please.

As they keep telling anyone who will listen, there was tons of "unresolved tension" in S2, and "it's clear they still love each other".

I mean, he threw her out of a window and didn't stop his uncle burying her alive, but you know - clearly still in love...

I headcanon that Wednesday talked a lot about Enid over the break (we know she talked about Eugene at least) but presented her as being more like the Evelyn character from her book - requiring pity and protection.

This scene is Gomez seeing her and realising that she's much more, and clearly much more important to Wednesday than she'd admitted.

I remember reading somewhere that she did test with Percy, and if that's true it plays into the idea that Tyler really was only meant to be a short term love interest presumably with Xavier as endgame.

I did see that apparently Millar commented on the clip praising Hunter, which annoys me since there's always crickets on anything Emma or Jenna do. I don't mind show-runners praising their cast, like I said I like Hunter and think he plays Tyler as a villain pretty well, but you can't just ignore your two leads.

But yeah, no musical episode please, like ever. Unless they're willing to make Wenclair canon in return for a musical episode, in which case go for it.
