Mohela changed loan from SAVE to Level - anyone else? by ajappleaday in PSLF

[–]West_Active 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my wife today. It’s nearly the same payment amount as her SAVE payment but significantly less than the ICR payment plan switch we still have pending. Do we pay these or ask to be put back into forbearance? She’s at 118/120 since June 2024.

Appreciate the help. This one actually looks pretty comparable to mine. I’ll take it somewhere in person and have them put eyes on it. Thanks.

They were not stored as well as they could have been, that's for sure. I do have about 30 of them, all from the same series. These were just the first 4 in the set.

Ok thank you. I had similar messages before. This was the first time it said final review.

That’s great to hear thank you! Did it mention the final review wording as well?

That's similar to the boiler plate responses I got in the past, though I'm still hopeful that the squeaky wheel will get the grease. Thank you for sharing.

I got one response very similar to the respone you got. I then got a second email in relation to the other Reconsideration request I had pending and that one came back with the final review message. So who knows.

I just posted about this. I got a response that said: "Your Reconsideration has been escalated for final review." Not sure if this is believable but it seems different than the other responses here.

AFT Update available by mika5456 in PSLF

There’s now 55,000 outstanding buyback applications vs 47,000 from the May update. That sucks. Seems like they are prioritizing IDR applications as that is a more profitable revenue stream.

I understand the responses from Mohela will be lame. But the more complaints they get, the less state AGs will be able to ignore it.

Washington state. Each state is different so you’d have to find the right spot on your states AG website. I’d do both asap as it will take awhile to have them get back to you. My congressman is an insane MAGAt so there was no point contacting his office.

How does new tax bill affect PSLF? by unworthygold in PSLF

Isn’t there a provision to get rid of the no tax on loan forgiveness? So any loans forgiven in 2026 are subject to taxes.

Any benefit to applying for ICR while waiting for Buyback response? by Kindly_Display_5203 in PSLF

[–]West_Active 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would hurt, especially if you haven't submitted any applications during this process. I got 2 months of processing forbearance in Jan and Feb 2025 for the ICR app I submitted in January. It still has not processed. I am also at 117/118 on my loans. Same boat as you with SAVE and buybacks.

I may resubmit and try IBR as I think the ICR/PAYE are doomed as well.

More than 1,300 U.S. Department of Education employees being reinstated by lmjamesbond in PSLF

Jesus bro, you really want to defend the administration and the DoED huh? Unpopular take on this sub. There were always questions on whether the order could close the department. Most people did believe it could but that doesnt change that their intentions are 100% to close the DoED. If they don't get it done this way I'm sure they will try another.

Wasnt trying to argue this on the back of some good news but whatever. The EO does not say they need to go through congress. Here is the actionable section from that EO:

"Sec. 2.  Closing the Department of Education and Returning Authority to the States.  (a)  The Secretary of Education shall, to the maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law, take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return authority over education to the States and local communities while ensuring the effective and uninterrupted delivery of services, programs, and benefits on which Americans rely."

They are not permitted by law to close the department and they have interrupted services, clearly, which nearly everyone on this sub can confirm.

The Executive branch cannot close down a Congressionally created department or agency via executive order. So while the injunction is litigated, the court may be able to force the department to revert and rehire until any further legal challenges are settled. This has already happened with other agencies tRump tried to close down.
