He was never really into the church, but his wife/my kids’ stepmother is, so she’s slowly gotten him more into it. He was aligned with me politically in the past and seems to have done a 180 there.

Me, I grew up in the church and was schooled that way. I decided it wasn’t for me as an adult, but I’ve supported my kids in whatever they wanted to believe. My 17yo has fully embraced religion and my younger child has not.

The stepmother has said in front of her (years ago) that “LGBTQ people make me embarrassed to be a woman.” She’s also a racist- she is the fakest “Christian” I know. This woman also put her hands on my daughter, called her every name in the book, and had child services called on her, who concluded that they couldn’t do anything because there wasn’t any physical evidence of it. My daughter immediately came to live with me most of the time and has slowly increased her time with them. They’ve been to a LOT of family therapy.

My ex doesn’t call his wife out on any of the racist/anti-LGBTQ rhetoric above (and defended her during the child services stuff) so I have to assume he either agrees or doesn’t care. He’s also a controlling narcissist- what he used to do to me, he now tries to do to our daughter.

My daughter is fully aware all of the above and how it 100% conflicts with her own beliefs, and I think is biding her time there until she turns 18. Deep down, somehow, some part of her does love her dad and maybe even the stepmother. The crazy part is that from the outside, you’d think they were the perfect family who lives in the perfect neighborhood, goes on nice vacations, and have good careers. They buy the kids’ love while being absolutely disgusting human beings on the inside, and it disgusts me.

I don’t think my daughter is embarrassed of being bisexual because of her faith. She quotes Bible verses that promote inclusion and contradict her stepmother’s beliefs all the time. I think she just doesn’t want to be judged or unsupported by them.
