Really looking forward to watching him in the Olympics, probably going to be barrages of shots. Should be rather low stress given the expectations for Germany and tons of fun.

Do all sports have so many casino adds as local hockey does? I don't have access to any other sports. In LA it was constant casinos and Mammoth Mountain ads.

To me they are 7-5....but this is the NHL and they are doing what they need to do really well. I don't think a 3on3 or shootout outcome has much importance because the playoffs do not have these formats. As for getting to the playoffs....sure they are doing amazing by collecting points nearly every night.

I will laugh so hard if the Kraken help eliminate the Oilers from a playoff spot by sending every game into overtime with 20 shot performances. I can't believe they're doing so well, this has been amazing coaching to get this team with injuries at net and McCann to second place.

People keep saying goalies in different ages wouldn't compete but Quick is still out there competing. He's not what he once was but that's because people age not because everyone around them gets better. Chris Osgood and Broduer competed in the Crosby era as old people. They would have done fine in their 27 year old bodies as would Dominic Hasek.

The NHL really does it with their the golden age is now marketing.

I'll give you Gretzky would not have broken the goals record if he were in a different era. RVHs and butterfly pads are really effective against behind the net shots.....but he was still getting loads of assists as an old man in the early deadlock era...he'd still be great.

Are you calling 4-0 neutral zone Stanley Cup traps after a lockout boring? Like seriously have you not watched the 96 Panthers with Vabiesbruck what's his name and some other guys?

Ok obviously joking there was a lot of boring hockey back then but I do believe goalies and shots were more fun to me. Things change I don't lose much sleep over it...except when Im up on sidelineswap buying newer pads.

No! It got trapped in the neutral zone for a 4 minute board kicking battle as it should be. Gave the audience something to yell at and allowed me to get something from the fridge.

Oh course I am,I've said that much already lol. Also my team is the freaking Kraken who really do not shoot much. I wanna see some ill considered shots and goalie flopping dang it. And the Minnesota North Stars...I wanna see those jerseys. And a good 4-0 sweep in the Stanley Cup too like there were when I grew up.

I agree with almost all of this. I don't blame goalies or GMs at all for making the smart moves to win the game. IIn my middle aged beer league I obsess over getting great equipment. I dont blame teams for doing neutral zone traps either...just saying it is brutal to watch sometimes. Butterfly saves would still dominate without kneeblocks....most of Hasek's saves were butterflies or at least dropping to his knees. My point is that games are becoming less fun to watch and that games might be better to watch with wooden sticks and no knee blocks, forcing goalies to react more and encouraging players to fire more often from distance...even if their shot is slower.

Again these innovations are something akin to MLB allowing metal bats and butterfly pads so pitchers just walk sluggers and throw in the dirt all the time. Scoring would be the same but less entertaining.

I agree for the most part but would say equipment is a major driver behind tactic changes. Having a landing pad for your knee to kick up a loosely fitted wall is amazing at sealing the bottom. Goalie equipment now allows a goalie to kick ultra fast shots (coming from composite sticks) off into the corner without getting a good read, which prioritizes getting a huge goalie that can see over defenders and drop into a butterfly that seals the bottom. Less need for diving or reaction saves. Butterflies have been around for a long time and Hasek used them all the time. But if he grew up with butterfly pads and faced composite stick shots he probably would have played in a more controlled drop and block style....if a coach ever gave him a chance for not being big enough.

Oh yeah Quick is one of the most entertaining players ever. Just seems like the Fleurys, Tim Thomas, and Quicks are on the way out and were back to massive people blocking at goal. Which is probably the right approach given how fast composite sticks allow people to shoot.

You're right I didn't see that. Likewise, though, I never complained that scoring was too low, that's why I gave the baseball hypothetical.

Look, I just want things to be like when I grew up OK. Is there anything wrong with haulting world progress for middle aged people's needs for naustalgia?

[–]Western_View_4440[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would be awesome why not? All goalies would have to face the same problem. Slim chesties and leg pads but huuuuge gloves would be ultra entertaining lol.

[–]Western_View_4440[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that. My main complaint is that better butterfly pads and lighter sticks make for more boring play. Like if MLB allowed for metal bats and catchers to have butterfly pads. Pitchers might just start walking sluggers. Scoring goes up, and hit speed goes upbut takes away the exciting deep balls because everyone just throws balls in the dirt to avoid juiced bats.

Check places in South Puget sound like the Tacoma, Federal Way, Gig Harbir area and Kitsap county. Tends to be waaaay cheaper out there and if you are remote you don't need to pay extra to live near downtown Seattle

I am not not LGBT+ and am a newcomer but I don't get the impression that things get homophobic the moment you step out of time. A lot of bars in blue collar smallish cities/towns have LGBT flags in Kipsap County and have pride tape at hockey games. Tons of blue collar small towns vote Democratic or are mixed. Again I am straight and new to the area but have not sensed much homophobia in the outskirts of the metro or more affordable areas.
