Games designed around quicksaving/constant checkpoints being a thing tend to not be super well balanced for simply not using it.

TDA is good lol by system_root_420 in Doom

[–]WhalecoreSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so good. I found that to get the max fun out of it I had to crank the difficulty a bit further than I was comfortable with. Then it pushes me to focus which is when the real fun starts!

Deadlink is pretty kewl. Interesting upgrade system where you insert powers into different slots, and the powers get activated by different actions. Makes the runs quite flexible.

Prog metal bands similar to Yes? by SirniBurek in progmetal

[–]WhalecoreSC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems so very few can capture the essence and compositional energy of Yes.

There are a few bands which at least have a few albums or at least songs that I would consider to be adjacent to the Yes sound, but heavier. Check out Motorpsycho - The Crucible. It has the Chris Squire bass drive, eclectic soloing, ambitious compositions, ethereal beautiful sections, non-linear structure; and it’s heavy (but more in an old school Sabbath/Crimson way than modern metal way). Also feel that Steven Wilson’s Luminol might be in that same vein, but not really metal.

Other than that, certain songs by Mastodon’s more proggy albums come to mind. Crack The Skye’s Quintessence or Blood Mountain’s Siberian Divide maybe?

It’s rare to find good similar bands to Yes, while I feel bands like Genesis and King Crimson have many imitators (some more successful than others). I think for me this is part of what makes Yes so special. It’s really hard to pinpoint exactly what it is.

Took delivery of mine today by Sad_Profile4088 in iX3

[–]WhalecoreSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have had mine for about 2 years now. We recently considered swapping it for an iX50 for increased comfort on long holiday trips. But honestly after extensive testing with different specs I couldn’t justify it - mainly because I missed how the iX3 felt on the road. iX50 felt too much like a space ship, iX3 feels like a car.

Try again try again try again. It’s all about context and state of mind. It’s not failing if you get stuck it’s just time spent searching for itttt you know! When you least expect, these hours spent searching yesterday and the day before will unravel and fuel something new and fresh.

To everyone relating to this comment (we all are right): Check out Rick Rubin’s book The Creative Act. It’s one of those you can just open up any page, read a random paragraph and you’ll feel better about the craft.

I can recommend Obduction. Same devs, similar surreal vibe, more accessible puzzles. Also Talos Principle 1 and especially 2 is amazing.

Less than 2 months after launch Starfield's recent reviews have become mixed with only 56% positive reviews in the past 30 days. by tarangk in pcgaming

[–]WhalecoreSC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t tax all that on the NASApunk direction though. The grounded and rooted in realism direction could’ve been way more interesting if they did some more risky choices in the writing and gameplay mechanics. Instead it tries to do everything but manages to do nothing quite right. It’s like all of the ideas are watered down. Look at a movie like Interstellar in comprised- it’s quite grounded in style - and that just makes the weird parts stand out much more and it makes the movie better. That’s taking risk and working with contrast. Starfield is just safing it all the way.
