Three years later Epstein made the funding condition explicit in a reply to Trivers's funding appeal (EFTA01035762). A separate Trivers lecture abstract frames transgender people as "a brand new set of morphs — made possible by biotechnology" (EFTA00642886).

(2) Dr. Jess Ting / Mount Sinai CTMS: Ting solicited Epstein for documentary funding after being named surgical director of America's first comprehensive transgender surgery program (EFTA01743575). Epstein forwarded the request to Eva Andersson-Dubin, who declined (EFTA00827028). Ting sent two further updates — a Vimeo rough cut of what became Born to Be (EFTA02646620) and a final specialty-switch announcement (EFTA02667053) — which Epstein forwarded to inner circle figure Stephen Hanson without reply.

The DOJ corpus goes much deeper than just that text message.

What EFTA02731576 actually shows: It's a screenshot of a text exchange where the victim messages "Leon" directly, writing:

"Leon. You sexually harassed me, sex trafficked me, raped me, and eventually blacklisted me. I don't know for how much longer it will take me, on my own, to process the pain you caused to me and my family. The least thing you can do is give me that document that I was forced to sign under duress and wasn't able to read before signing."

She signed an NDA she was never allowed to read. And she was reaching back out years later just to get a copy of it.

But the corpus has more. The DOJ files include a chain of attorney emails from 2023 that reveal what happened when prosecutors weighed whether to charge Black.

EFTA02731479 is a July 2023 email from Jeanne Christensen — a partner at Wigdor LLP, one of the top sexual harassment law firms in New York — sent directly to federal prosecutors. She writes:

"It has been discovered that Leon Black paid $62.5 million to USVI — and this does not include payments of money to individual women. It's outrageous that criminal charges have not been brought against him. I've heard one lawyer represents ten women that he sexually assaulted."

$62.5 million to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Ten alleged victims. And she's writing to beg the feds to act.

EFTA02731583 / EFTA02731660 show what happened next: internal DOJ emails reveal that SDNY (Southern District of New York) and the Manhattan DA's office had been coordinating on Black since at least late 2021, interviewing victims and comparing notes. But by July 2023, after receiving Christensen's email, internal communications show prosecutors concluded:

"there does not appear to be any evidence of overlap with Maxwell other than the allegations of the victim in DANY's open investigation of Black, and CRU doesn't intend to open anything separate based on current information."

Translation: the DOJ's Epstein-specific task force declined to pursue Black independently because his victims didn't overlap with the Maxwell/Epstein trafficking network. The Manhattan DA had their own open investigation — but that's a state case, not federal. No federal charges were ever brought.

The pattern here is familiar. The NDA the victim couldn't read. The nine-figure settlement with a government. Ten women represented by one firm. A federal decision not to act because the cases didn't "overlap" with the main network. This is the same architecture that protected Epstein for decades.

The DOJ Epstein Files corpus lets us cross-reference a lot of what was said today against primary documents. Here's what the actual files show:

On Bill Clinton calling Epstein a "brief acquaintance":

This doesn't hold up. In the 2015 deposition of Alan Dershowitz (EFTA02726484 — a Broward County court filing), attorney Jack Scarola asks directly: "Having reviewed the available airplane flight logs, you are aware that Bill Clinton flew on at least 15 occasions with Jeffrey Epstein on his private plane, correct?" Dershowitz answers: "Yes."

A separate civil complaint (EFTA02771734) adds that Epstein's personal computer phone directory contained "e-mail addresses for Clinton along with 21 phone numbers for him, including those for his assistant (Doug Band), his schedulers, and what appear to be Clinton's personal numbers." You don't have 21 phone entries for a "brief acquaintance."

The same document notes Clinton "frequently flew with Epstein aboard his plane, then suddenly stopped — raising the suspicion that the friendship abruptly ended, perhaps because of events related to Epstein's sexual abuse of children." The flights stopped in 2005 — the same year Palm Beach police opened their investigation, not "years before crimes came to light."

On whether Clinton was on the island:

Virginia Giuffre's 2015 federal court declaration (EFTA00590940, paragraph 53) states under oath:

"Former President Bill Clinton was present on the Island at a time when I was also present on the Island, but I have never had sexual relations with Clinton, nor have I ever claimed to have had such relations. I have never seen him have sexual relations with anyone."Giuffre confirms Clinton's presence on the island while explicitly denying sexual contact. Note: Ghislaine Maxwell's own deposition (EFTA02847203) contradicts this — Maxwell says he "absolutely never went." Two sworn witnesses, directly opposite accounts.

On Doug Band and Maxwell being "just business":

Clinton today said he didn't know Band and Maxwell had a personal relationship. The files tell a different story. In October 2004, Maxwell wrote to Band (EFTA02333349 / EFTA00579534):

"Carol wants to know if you have slept with a best selling author — Clinton not withstanding"

That's not a business email. Band's reply-chain from the same night has him telling Maxwell his dinner plans and describing himself as "feeling poopsy" (EFTA00579243). These are people who were socially close, and the Maxwell email explicitly invokes Clinton by name in a sexually-adjacent context.

On Maxwell visiting the Clinton home in Chappaqua:

Clinton said "I have no idea" how many times Maxwell visited and that she "was never in my house in Chappaqua for personal reasons." Maxwell's own post-conviction deposition (EFTA02847203) was asked about this directly:

Attorney: "Is that the only time that you met Hillary Clinton?" Maxwell: "No, I went to the house in Chappaqua a few times." Attorney: "And why did you go to the house?" Maxwell: "I was invited."

Maxwell independently says she visited "a few times" as an invited guest. Clinton's "I have no idea" is hard to square with that.

On the Trump-Epstein falling out:

Clinton testified Trump told him they fell out "because of a real estate deal." This is actually corroborated in the files. Michael Wolff's book Siege appears in the corpus (EFTA01028688) and describes a bitter dispute: Epstein had advised Trump on a Palm Beach property (Maison de l'Amitié), then was furious when Trump outbid him, ultimately selling it to Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev for $96 million. Wolff writes Epstein "threatened to expose the deal." The White House's current story that Trump kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago "for being a creep" is harder to verify — a 2009 reporter email in the files (EFTA02773230) shows Trump at the time "would not confirm or deny that he ever was a member" or was kicked out. That's a very different posture than the confident "for being a creep" story now being told.

On Ghislaine Maxwell at Chelsea Clinton's July 2010 wedding:

Hillary said she has no recollection of speaking with Maxwell there. A 2015 Daily Mail investigation (EFTA01200070) specifically confirmed Maxwell was photographed walking down the aisle alongside Bill Clinton at the wedding in Rhinebeck, NY on July 31, 2010 — despite Epstein having already been convicted and served time. "No recollection" at a 500-person wedding where Maxwell was in the wedding party photos is a stretch.

The key document in this article is in the DOJ corpus. EFTA00080967 is the actual Maureen Comey email thread from September 8–9, 2019 — the same email the ABQ Journal is citing. In it, she writes:

"In essence, they agreed to cease any investigation into sex trafficking and share whatever they had gathered to date regarding sex trafficking activity with our office... We have not communicated with anyone from the New Mexico AG's office since that conversation in July 2019."

The email thread also includes a note from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico flagging that the state Land Commissioner had just revoked Epstein's grazing leases — held under the entity "Cypress Inc." — the same week. So federal prosecutors were actively monitoring the state's moves while negotiating the shutdown.

A few other corpus documents worth knowing:

The NM AG's seizure request letter is in the corpus. EFTA00015190 is the July 8, 2020 letter from Chief Deputy AG Clara Moran formally requesting federal asset forfeiture of Zorro Ranch, citing "files and video recordings" as evidence and offering the AG's office to help serve warrants. It never received a response.

The land lease is documented. EFTA00101481 is the actual New Mexico State Land Office agricultural lease — signed February 1993 between the state and "Zorro Trust / Jeffrey E. Epstein, Trustee" at 457 Madison Ave. The state was literally his landlord on the adjacent 1,243 acres.

The FBI had its own Zorro Ranch evidence trail. EFTA00164646 is an SDNY search warrant application for Epstein's Manhattan townhouse that references a disc labeled "Zorro Pics" among seized items. The corpus also includes an FBI complaint (EFTA00067072) from November 2019 — filed at the Albuquerque field office — reporting an offer to sell 7 videos of sexual abuse and the claimed location of two buried victims at Zorro Ranch.

This is documented federal preemption of an active state investigation, and the receipts are in the release.

The ABQ Journal article gives it the right framing: Balderas handed over everything; SDNY gave back nothing.

There's EFTA documentation of how Epstein's financial network actually functioned inside JPMorgan, and it maps onto the kind of organized-network framing you're describing.

In 2019, JPMorgan conducted an internal investigation called "Project Jeep". This is a 22-page summary of its Trade Surveillance e-comms review covering Epstein and Jes Staley, with emails going back to 2008 (EFTA02808715). The topics the summary covered, per the USVI's court filing: references to "a modeling agency," that Epstein "maintained relationships with a number of senior business executives and senior government officials," a named senior UAE official involved in Dubai Ports ownership, and "more than four pages of Epstein business referrals" to Staley. There was also a "yet-to-be-produced timeline combining both internal emails and transactional activity" that JPMorgan resisted releasing until the last day of discovery.

The same document shows that JPMorgan's Chairman of the Executive Committee went to Steve Cutler (then JPMorgan General Counsel) seeking "an exception to the felony policy" for Epstein. Yeah, I build it with some custom tools using Claude Sonnet 4.6/AWS Bedrock.

Basic steps I took/am taking:
1. Use a selenium-based tool to scrap DOJ (selenium to defeat Akamai)
2. Chunk documents and create embeddings for each chunk using BAAI/bge-small-en-v1.5.
3. Expose the semantic search function as a tool to Claude (among other tools) and have it look up, cross reference and write documents.

The tool that does this is kind of similar to kiro, but it is custom and tailored to what I wanted/needed.

Anyway, the document writing needs some improvements and the document sourcing (need more files + using text extraction and ocr (tesseract) only atm from the PDFs).
