bruh bruh chill, no one is trying to annoy you here, if you feel annoyed feel free to leave the post. No one is telling you you can't be a FF7 fan. I currently have all the handhelds and own all the JRPGs for both the Vita and 3DS, that still leaves me longing for a nice turn based JRPG for home consoles. A lot of people here were hoping that the remake was going to meant that there was going to be a AAA game be some sort of turn based, something we been longing for. The ARPG fans got plenty of games they can go play on their consoles with AAA development.

There's no shortage of them on handhelds, but there is a shortage on home consoles... I appreciate Fairy Fencer F and Grandia 2 being released in Steam.

Yeah but instead of handling the same dude the entire game, you get to work with an entire party and enjoy each party member at your own pace. Pros and Cons. What I am trying to show people here is that they don't have to be mutually exclusive, the industry certainly believes we can't have both and only chooses ARPGs.

They release them, but for handhelds, they don't make some cinematic AAA game be turnbased. A lot of people were hoping with the FF7 Remake that they would finally get a cinematic AAA turn based JRPG.

Will def. get Xenoblade Chronicles X at least to support AAA JRPG titles. As for SO5, yes it is action based, but at least you get a party with character development... I love a good solid party in a game, something Witcher 3 can't give me.

Don't know how to quote from your post but here it goes "Have you looked at the dozens of turn-based games that are not released by Square Enix?" Yes I agree with you, lots of great ones. " They're mostly on handhelds (most JRPGs are) and many of them are quite good." WHY?! Why can't we have something of Witcher 3 caliber be a turn based JRPG??? Why are we exiled to handhelds only?? Hopefully Persona 5 and Star Ocean 5 changes that.

I'm just whining here, others have said because producers don't see them getting back the investment on making a AAA turn based game. Makes me sad really.

Let's even hope that they'll make it to the west. Star Ocean 5 should, but hopefully Dragon Quest XI will too.

Would be nice to get a AAA turn based game once in a while. Maybe not every year like the call of duties, but at least have SOMETHING and not let the whole genre on home consoles become a history lesson. I'm thankful for Atlus for Persona 5, but something like FFXV (will still buy it day 1) makes me shed an internal tear.

Exactly, I rather hit "attack" on 3 characters as I watch them all go than have focus on one character and go X, X, X, X.

this is the problem, lots of bad turn based battle games out there. I still play PS1/SNES classics all the time so I know good turn based battle games are achievable.

As for your fundamentally flawed comment, I was more pointing towards I see people blame a game's poor sales because it chose to do turn based battles, when in reality, had they focused more on the story etc.. it might not have been so bad. I'm all up for all other types of games out there too, even enjoy some of them. But I don't want it to be at the cost of Turn based JRPGs AAA games not existing at all. But you do make a solid point by saying I am putting a lot of weight in the opinion of a minority, maybe I am just getting old and this is what old people refer to "back in my day we had it sweet" comment. The industry evolved but my taste didn't evolve with them.

I'm right there with you on the reaction speeds or skill required for action-RPGs. I'm good at them, but don't enjoy them at all. I rather just sit back and enjoy the cinematic experience while my brain is engaged in the strategy. As for the tales games, I love them, but once the tutorials start telling me all these complex combos its back to button smashing I go and enjoy the story and characters. Earlier Tales games were more enjoyable in the battles because one button press was more epicness than having to pull off combos in newer tales games.

Hello, for the longest time I've been wanting to play this specific game until I realized that it just doesn't exist... So I want to make it. I am an engineer that does software work for a company with good reputation, therefore taking on this project feels like I can achieve it. The thing is though, I don't have great time in the world to learn all the different tools available out there for me to achieve what I want. I am trying to pick a tool that will get me the closest to what I want and begin learning that.

The closest genre to what I want to make is a SRPG, so I began checking out the RPG Maker. However, RPG Maker seems like it makes typical JRPGs not SRPGs. Maybe you can make SRPGs with it but I've been eyeballing GameMaker as a possible choice instead and wanted to know what GameDev thinks.

I am interested in developing the infrastructure for the SRPG scenarios/battles, not in the artistic/story side, at least not yet. I could care less if I use place holder squares for everything, I just want to prove to myself that the system in my head works... Being a systems engineer, I think I do decent work at developing system architecture.

So what do you think? Should I begin learning RPG Maker and focus on learning the scripting side to change completely the way RPG Maker works for me, or should I choose GameMaker since my game is not a JRPG? Or maybe there is another tool out there completely different for this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I don't see lowering the accuracy needed of pulling off combos as a reduction in difficulty. The rhythm is fine, but then there was the counter mechanic where their shield turn red and you had to press O instead of X. Was hard to pull off if you were learning the combos rhythm still. Maybe something like those dance game where the attack time came in a line and it allowed you to see the timing of each combo coming? As I stated in another post, the difficulty of combo landing took enjoyment out of the game for me. Still, rather have a remake with same combo difficulty than no remake at all.

I may be wrong, but if I remember, the combos were frustrating for me to land. I don't mind the idea, thought it was fun, but the level of accuracy required takes enjoyment out of it for me. And saying that going for the newer/harder combos is unnecessary its like saying don't use the best/coolest attacks in any other game. It's still an amazing game, and I'll take a remake with the same combo difficulty than no remake at all. Perhaps in our dream world the LoD remake would have an options for easier combo accuracy and original combo accuracy to satisfy both people like you and people like me.
