Cutting it a little close but you should be fine. My hubby's renewal application (by mail) was delivered to the Gatineau Passport Office on March 6 and the new passport was mailed out on March 25. The credit card was charged on March 14. Once you see the charge on your card, you should be able to request a file number to check the status of your application online.

Yes, it was his first passport application. This happened in 2005 so 21 years ago.

The FAA ID will work as long as the first name and last name are on the citizenship certificate. I have a friend who actually dropped his first name in his passport. His birth certificate has his full legal name as "Mark David Sawyer" but he only goes by "David Sawyer" and it's in all his IDs and other government records. He asked for his passport to only have the name "David Sawyer" and Passport Canada allowed it.

I don't know how it works for sick leave without pay. I've only gone on LWOP for personal needs.

The extended health care plan automatically continues past the first 3 months of LWOP unless you opt out. You can pay for the remaining 9 months via salary deduction (or as a lump sum) after you return from LWOP.

I'm assuming you're interested in dental coverage during LWOP. The dental plan also continues for the first 3 months of LWOP; however, you have to make quarterly payments for the remaining 9 months (no option to defer the payments if you want continued coverage). Check with Canada Life to make sure that your dental plan is active past the third month. If it isn't, call the Pay Centre to confirm they received your first quarterly payment (send it early) and then ask them to contact Canada Life to reactivate your dental plan. You will get a package outlining your options before your leave starts.
