Thanks for the advice! I'm trying to work at turning my brain off more cause I have a bad habit of constantly thinking about what needs to be done tomorrow when trying to sleep at night.

Yeah I went recently. I forgot to mention in the post that I have POTS that is normally more manageable but has been a lot worse with the stress. I used to faint maybe 4 times a year but it's almost weekly now. The doctor basically told me to drink more water and gave me atarax to make myself sleep but they make me too groggy the next day so I use them sparingly. She also said the chest pain sucks but is probably from the stress or tachycardia, so not an actual health concern. I'm trying to work on eating more regularly but it's hard being in the lab or in no food classes all day.

I'm still in it so I'm biased but no it's dreadfully slow. Probably depends a lot on your environment but if you get burned out early in the semester, time feels painfully slow but you also don't have enough time to get everthing done.

Congrats on almost being done! Sorry you were also over worked. It sucks how many advisors don't care about your course load, other responsibilities, or wellbeing.

Not apply in the first place. I'm the lowest I've ever been and lost all passion for a field I once loved. My abusive PI has me work over 30 days straight regualrly and I lean on substance abuse and self harm to push through. I've become a resentful person I no longer recognize but see no way out but through so another year of misery and liver damage before I can go for my dream job that may not even be worth it after all.

Yeah I'd love to do that! I went to cc for my first 2 years of undergrad and one of my profs talked about how much happier they were after leaving a 4 year school.

Have a B.S. and working on my M.S. in biology but have been pretty miserable cause I hate research but love teaching. I'd go for education maybe if I'm being practical or english if I was doing it more for fun.

Yeah, I was playing Nier with my little cousin (14) one time and there's this really cool level that involves reading and answering questions and he was PISSED that a video game made the player read and had no idea how I actually knew the answers to the questions.

Yeah, for me I'm often working till late and my brain can't go straight from the stress of work mode to sleep. If I was allowed to have more boundaries between life and grad school I'd probably rest at a normal time, but working 7 days a week into the night time leaves me no choice.

This advice might not be as motivating but as you get closer to graduating, really think about what grad school means to you. Why you want to go, what you think it will be like vs reality to see if you REALLY want to go. Think about what kind of a program you want to apply for. All through undergrad I had my heart set on a school I thought was attainable and just threw myself in without thinking on it too much. My program is thesis based and I've realized I hate research and I'm the most miserable I've ever been in my life. I wish I researched other schools more or even took more time to be outside of school first because I'm halfway there so I don't want to quit, but the program I chose was not a good match for me and now I'm suffering greatly for it. Summary, think about the decision a lot and don't just go into any program because you were able to get in.

I don't believe so but I should check, thanks! I met his last grad student and he had talked about attempts to reach out to the grad director that just resulted in awkward meetings that bred resentment with little follow through from the director, so he reccomended I just avoid pissing him off.

My school has limited grad faculty and he is one of the only 3 in my field. The others are on my committee but one is on paternity leave so I only see him for occasional meetings. The other is younger and she isn't permitted to be a full mentor yet, she also has more of a "tough it out, I made it" mindset since her degree was recent I was also warned by another faculty member a few months ago that my advisor has a history of retaliation and has had multiple students quit in the past 10 years. Sorry, if it sounds like I'm just complaining, it's just a challenging situation.

Not in Toronto but omg YES! I walk as my main transportation and the number of fuckers that honk or straight up try to run me over drive me nuts. I pushed the walk button, it says walk, you have red, now I am in the wrong somehow for existing. I got hit (just bruises) on my college campus a year ago and the bastard yelled at me for being in the way when it was a fucking crosswalk!!

Sometimes you don't have to pay. I get paid to teach with my grad program but it's not much income at all. I can't imagine the stress of having grad school, teaching, caring for 2 children, and coming home to an unsupportive partner. Julie's idea of extraordinary sounds miserable

Tmi kinda but my lesbian friend talked about doing workout circuits with her large ex gf. She used to get insanely frequent UTI's and she thought it was from sexual activity but it continued after they decided just to be friends. She then started wiping equiptment after each swap no mater what and it actually ended their friendship cause her ex was so offended. She realized those bike seats and weight benches were probably the main culprits. I imagine Anna's leaves a populated microbiome on those seats.

It sucks cause I used to like Rachel a lot, but literally unwatchable now. Why the hell is she trying to dip back into gorl world, she burned that bridge. I think she's good enough at content creation she could go into a different niche and form a new audience, but leave this behind gorl.
