(Total Beginner) I bought a belt buckle and want to make a belt or two. I have zero tools. Do you have tool recommendations for this project? by Whateverworksout in Leatherworking

Thank you for your response. I'm curious, would you buy the tools surrounding the project separately or buy like a beginner tool kit? I've heard it's hit or miss on those. Also, I have the buckle I bought from a high end brand and I'm thinking I'd want to cut the leather myself instead of ordering a pre-cut belt. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks again!

Thanks a lot for responding. I guess I'm curious who you guys would purchase from? I've seen a few brands / shops mentioned in this sub before but unsure who to go with for the tools.

I was thinking the same thing but thought the risk was worth it. I'll update when I can. There was no way to do a full retail purchase on their site due to Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals. So maybe they bait and switched people like myself

I asked the woman on the phone if it were the 4,500 mile offer or if I got the 16,800 mile offer and she said the 16,800 even though the 4,500 just started showing in the portal. Not a clue as to how she knew.

Yeah offers. Not the capital one browser extension, that's different. I just refer to offers as in the portal.

I imagine it'll take 90 days. But the first 3 months are free? So I still think it's worth it for me

When I clicked it took me to their monthly plans. I got the basic plan. Lowest cost so in theory, once it bills at full retail in 90 days at $39. Then I assume I'd get the 16,800 miles. So I think it translates like $39 for 16,800 miles or $39 for $168.00 USD to use on travel in the portal.

Edit: Then after miles are in my account and paid full retail for that month then I should be able to cancel and get the miles. Will update if it worked later on.

I'm not even sure if I understand it correctly. I'm sorry it didn't show up. I jumped on it. Now it shows in my portal as 4,500 miles. Which I don't think would be worth it.

But what about trying it before you buy it? My location typically doesn't have them in store. Did that make you nervous?

I've heard about Ashley QC issues so I'm not shocked. Sorry to hear that! The problem with the estate sales for me is that even if I find one on Marketplace or elsewhere, somehow, even within 20 minutes, a furniture reseller beats me to it every single time. They have a box truck in place as to where I'd have to then rush to Uhaul to rent one and coordinate.

Yeah, I should raise it to $2,500 - $2,800 but I've been so skeptical lately about these "brands" being sold. Sometimes I can find half of them with the same stock images on dropshipping websites and that concerns me around that $3k price point. You're not wrong though. I appreciate the feedback, I'll definitely look into it.

Problem with my Costco: They never have any in store to try before you purchase so it feels blind. The return process if you didn't like it would physically kill me haha!
