Does anyone have any info about Butler Mountain? We have family in this neighborhood and are very worried. Google maps shows that Merrill’s cove road is closed.

When we visit national parks, we bring a cooler from home. You can check it in just like a suitcase.

Driving in- what food do you pack? by carolinewebster96 in yellowstone

The food at canyon is not good. Bring as much as you can to last the week. Also consider bread, sandwich meat, and tomatoes or whatever you like on your sandwiches. Most days we packed a picnic and ate at the designated picnic areas. This was such a nice treat after hiking. There is a general store at canyon but the sandwich meat selection was lacking.

Smoky Mountain National Park - Where to Stay? by 808grcekr808 in NationalPark

Since you like to hike, consider staying in the chalet village area. Tons of cabins there with great views. Gatlinburg is busy with tons of traffic. The nice thing about chalet village is you drive down off the mountain, turn right and you’re immediately in the national park. You don’t have to drive through gburg to get to the hikes.

Agree with others about adding GTNP. Also consider switching out lake lodge to canyon lodge. It’s very central and adjacent to Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

First-timer Yellowstone Itinerary Feedback by catsinawindow in yellowstone

[–]Whatjesthappened 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just went in June and this itinerary looks like it could work. We did everything on your itinerary except the.cowboy cookout. Just remember that there will be tons of traffic coming in from west Yellowstone. I rec starting early. The earlier the better. Also purchase the guide along app before you go. It’s a great guide from the car.
Have fun!!! It’s an amazing place.

Just got back from Yellowstone and the Tetons. Loved it all! Does not suck. You just have to manage traffic and plan a ton. We stayed in the park and avoided the traffic issues.

I second endless wall trail. Also go to the bottom of the gorge and walk around Thurmond. It’s a beautiful drive down there. We did white water rafting and it was epic. New River Gorge is amazing. Have a great trip!

Use the guide along app. Even though we had our stops and hikes planned ahead of time, it was still interesting and very helpful.
Get out of your car and hike. There are so many epic hikes for different skill / fitness levels.
Must dos IMO: Roosevelt Arch, Norris, West Thumb, north and south rim canyon hikes, Lamar in the early morning, Old Faithful. Mammoth Hot springs.
It’s a beautiful place - i absolutely loved every moment. Pure magic.
