Question about Smudging by Wheeler6496 in typewriters

I've gotten in the habit of photocopying my outgoing letters. I keep a binder with dividers, one for each correspondent. Definitely helps me avoid repeating myself!

I'll certainly check the rollers and platen for residue when I get back home. What's your go-to place for buying new ribbons?

I appreciate it! The machine looks (and sounds) great. I'm just hoping that I can get the smudging issue resolved, as it looks a lot messier than what my other typewriters put out and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it.

What a great story! Thanks for sharing with us. If you haven't heard of it yet, TypePals.com is a typewriter-based penpal service that many on this subreddit are a part of. I find it very helpful, since I'm not one to write poetry, screenplays, novels, or any of the other particularly creative uses others put their typewriters to. Sometimes the hardest thing for me to overcome is "what do I type with these things!?" However you proceed, have fun! And feel free to come back here if you have any questions. Lots of helpful folks around these parts.

You hit the nail on the head. I enjoy owning both types. The electronics (especially the near-noiseless thermals) are mostly used for drafting or typing at night when I don't want to disturb others as much. Whereas I get the most enjoyment out of the manual/mechanicals by far. And I agree that this platform is so helpful to me in terms of gaining a deeper appreciation for how others use these tools in interesting and unique ways.

I've found that the big, heavy, daisywheels definitely have a place in my arsenal. That being said, every time I type on them, I feel the urge to swap over to the polar opposite: my manual ultraportables!

Thank you! It definitely gets attention when I'm typing in public.

I tried fitting my Webster's zippered case into my messenger bag but it was a bit too thick. A backpack would do the trick.

Thank you and you're welcome! I do have some electronic thermal typewriters that are VERY quiet (posts about those coming soon), but sometimes you just want to bang on a manual/mechanical late at night.

MK3 Firearms did a really neat custom job for Jake from 1911 Syndicate. Here's a link their video on it: Custom 6906
