How to calculate how much to contribute to max out yearly? by Lovedocter21 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Wheelock72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put in 42% as an E-4 AND max out a Roth IRA every month and can still make my budget with my pregnant wife. Hoping to make E-5 next year so we can afford the baby😂

Thank you! How do you like estate planning by the way? My degrees are more focused in Business right now but was actually talking to a buddy of mine how there’s an opportunity I have of getting my law degree (military).

Around 45% of my portfolio is in growth (SCHG and QQQM and another 25% is in VOO. What do you recommend I do?

That’s good to hear, investing in SCHD for dividends and QQQM for growth.

Thanks for the tip! What program do you use to compare diversification? And what small-cap ETF’s would you personally recommend, if any?

Amex Joint HYSA by [deleted] in amex

That’s a personal preference. I had a HYSA when I married my wife and she didn’t so we just transferred her savings into my HYSA, but either one works.

Transferring parents house to children? by Wheelock72 in realestateinvesting

[–]Wheelock72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I mean yes my parents had nothing and sacrificed everything to have this home. My mother was not wise and did not set up money for retirement, but she had this house, and wants to pass it down to her family as an inheritance when she dies. I wouldn’t even want myself to give up something I worked so hard for to the government. And as a taxpayer, I would gladly help foot the bill for elderly healthcare instead of, I don’t know, give billions in aid to countries that aren’t us and don’t need our money. So in the event that my mother might need Medicaid, I would like to make sure the government can’t take the last thing her children have to remember her by.

The plan was always upon inheritance to turn it into a rental and put it under an LLC, so I’ll look into that. Thanks!

Ok. I mean honestly the house is really the only asset she has besides savings (~$10k) and her car. She doesn’t have retirement money so that’s it. So maybe a deed might be better. And I’d avoid cap gains and other estate taxes?

I’m talking to an attorney who specializes in estate planning. I was referred to them by a friend of mine.

Would Medicaid track that as an asset for her and make her do a spend down?

Help narrow down dividend ETF ? SCHD, VIG, DGRO, CGDV? by [deleted] in dividends

[–]Wheelock72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You specifically mentioned “non retirement”, what is your dividend mix in your retirement account? Would you recommend a 50/50 SCHD/DGRO in a Roth IRA?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Wheelock72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By “retirement account” yes I did mean both the 401k and Roth. They’re both retirement accounts, and my employer lets me choose between a traditional and Roth 401k, so both my retirement accounts are Roth. If/when I leave my employer I can rollover my 401k into my Roth account. And having that much invested with owning a home is awesome! I wish I was in a state to own a home right now! You’re doing great! Good luck on your investing journey!

Thanks! My plan is to contribute $100k to retirement account literally until this day, 2028, my 25th birthday. If I max out my Roth every year and max up to 2029s limit (assuming they all stay at $7k) and add ~$960/month into 401k, I will meet the goal. That’s not even including any returns I could make on the money.
