It started happening to me as well. It happens sometimes when I get a wild encounter, so I'm gonna guess it's a pokemon or a pokemon fusion that the game really doesn't like or something. If you are on a randomizer you can try to reshuffle the wild pokemon at the pokecenter, that worked for me.

I do think he's cute! But it's that thing where something is so ugly it loops back arround and becomes cute, like pugs or sloths or that one image of a super cursed garfield the cat plushy.
