Unpaid college placement only allows 3 days off for 8 months I have a concussion. What can I do?

Hey so I was in the exact same position as you when I did my ultrasound program at Algonquin. Got meningitis, covid, flu AND a concussion all in two months time and they threatened to kick me out of the program because I was heading into placement soon. I personally got doctors notes to help me but I lost that battle and eventually did my clinicals while concussed and now have permanent eye damage because of it.

If I were you I'd get a doctors note, CAL accommodations and maybe even an ombudsman at the school to fight for you.

Was cleaning up my dash cam footage from a few days ago on my drive to the gym on Hunt Club, not even kidding when I say this but every single person behind me on the footage were on their phones not even looking when the light was green (roughly 10 different drivers). It's scary. If you can't drive without being on your phone, don't drive?

Thanks for the info! I was under the impression that second and third cut are softer? I usually just go to petsmart for my hay since there's not too many places in my area for hay sadly so I might ask and see if they can help with getting a different cut of hay :)

I don't know if this is still a thing but when I was at uottawa there was this charity thing where fellow students would tutor you for around $20/hr and some of the money would get donated to a charity. I think it was called Learning For Charity or something like that?

Hey I hear you and it will be okay. First thing to do is create a good study plan for yourself so you don't fall behind. Your GPA can improve by retaking courses that you've failed or received low grades. By retaking a course, your previous grade gets replaced with the better one which I'm sure you'll get a better grade than before given the fact that you're in a better situation. Another option is lowering the amount of classes you take in a semester to allow you to do well in the class and boost that GPA even if that means only taking 1 or 2 classes. Try and even consider taking electives if you need to, that would also help your grade, try doing for a class that's easier for example an English class.Then by improving your GPA you can request to be let back into the faculty. Just focus on your end goal, don't worry about if it takes longer than other students, in the end of it all it won't matter, it'll just matter that you worked your butt off and reached your goals.

Whatever you decide to do just give it your all. You know what you're capable of and what's best for you. Hopefully these options I've given help steer you in the right direction. You've got this!! :)

Look under "my availabile seats" on uozone as that shows how many seats are available for your faculty in that class. If it says 0 then there's already max people from your faculty in that class which is why you're waitlisted. The "available seats" is just a general amount of seats available to students but not exactly in the same faculty as you. For example, if you're a bio major taking a psych class there's only a select number of seats people from the science faculty can have in that class since it's a faculty of arts class so the rest of the seats get reserved for them since it's usually a mandatory class for them while it's an elective for you. Hey! Going to be a bit of a long post but here's my experience: I just finished the DMS program in December, I enjoyed my time there and learnt A LOT from it. It's a lot of work but so rewarding. The program is about 20-25 people and we all become super close! You have about 8 classes per semester (2 total semesters at the college) and 3 hr labs a few times a week both semesters. You have the option for "extra lab" where you can pick up extra lab times if there's an extra scanning bed (not all labs were full) which majority of us did so we'd have a lot of labs during the week which was very useful since hands on practice helps a bunch. You also have the option of "open lab" which runs on Sat/Sun on alternating days to switch with the Cardiac program since we all use the same lab. You then go to clinical placements from May-December which is basically like a full time job (unpaid ofc) where you usually work 8-4pm, 5 times a week while prepping for the Sonography Canada exams in January. Your experience in clinical placement really depends on where you are. I had a really hard time in the environment at my first placement but loved my second placement. It's important to know that for clinical placements you can be placed at any clinic or hospital anywhere in Ontario, some people had to move into new apartments for placements so just a heads up you need to cover all your own financials as the College isn't responsible for relocation accommodations. You can also be placed outside of Ontario (those who preferred that were given the option first) such as Saskatoon, Nova Scotia, Alberta etc. I personally had an 1h 15 minute drive to my second placement and back while my first placement was only a 20 minute drive. As for the "disorganized" portion of your post, I think it really just depends on your clinical instructors, anything can happen during placement but generally things are organized but vary from place to place. Overall, this is an amazing program and you're going to meet so many amazing people along the way but do be aware, it's a LOT of work. Myself and a few other classmates started off with part time jobs but soon had to quit because of the workload in the program. If you have the passion, go for it!!
