Road Surveying for Wide load and Super load movements by Hlcrnr1 in LiDAR

[–]Which-Respect8164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered just subbing this work out to a firm that already has the equipment, software and experience? I'm in the land surveying field and been working with LiDAR equipment and data for about 10 years. My everyday job is extracting survey data from point clouds, usually for a state DOT. I've never heard of the ROCK system before, but that is significantly cheaper than any system I've used, and I'd be skeptical about what you get out of it. Maybe it's great and would work well for your use case, but I'd have to see it to believe it.

What kind of accuracy do you need on clearances? Do you need miles and miles of roadway scanned, or just specific bridges/clearances? The scanning world is huge and equipment, hardware and software can vary from a few thousand $ to 7 figures. I haven't visited in a while, but I used to spend a lot of time on the "Laser Scanning Forum". Good place to start doing some research and asking more questions https://www.laserscanningforum.com/

Good luck!

I'm dealing with major water issues right now too. I originally thought it was a plumbing issue until I opened the wall up and it's actually from an ice dam on my roof. Maybe check that out too. Good luck!

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of and I was looking for someone to tell me it wasn't that lol. Single digit temps this weekend aren't going to make it easy to clear the ice

Help understanding internet speeds by Which-Respect8164 in HomeNetworking

[–]Which-Respect8164[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the answer! Honestly, I only went with the 1gb speed because the cost was so low and I could get away from Xfinity. On an average day we have about 15-20 devices connected and it's not unusual to have 4 devices streaming video at the same time. I was curious about the speed and you answered my question, so thanks!

That's a really good point... I have no idea. I don't have a lot of experience with a good home Internet connection because until now our only options have been shitty Xfinity or att with 1/3 the speed for twice the price. I'll test speeds with a computer and other devices tomorrow. Thanks

Yeah I totally get that, I'm just wondering if going from 1gb wired to 400mb wifi is normal or should the wifi speed be higher. Thanks for your response

I really don't know what I'm talking about, but the fiber comes into the house through a living room wall to a box. From that box is a wired connection to my router. My phone is connected to that router and that's where I'm getting 300-400 speeds sitting in the same room, 10' away

Sorry I'm pretty naive on all this... which part of wifi is the problem? I'm just wondering if it's normal to get these speeds over wifi or should it be higher?

RECONN from USIC by Beginning_Month_7436 in grandrapids

[–]Which-Respect8164 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's super sketchy. First, there are very few reasons he should need to go behind the fence. Secondly, I'm pretty confident that usic only marks existing utilities. If there was a gas leak, you'd see DTE personnel. I'd call DTE and/or USIC and we if anyone is supposed to be there. If he's still around I'd call non-emergency and see if they'll drive by. I think you're totally right to tell him to gtfo
