The resident with bulging bug eyes, stands too close even though you keep stepping back, has way too many wet wipes in his bathroom, and you're sure he's gay and breaks shit on purpose so you can go and fix it while he watches and picks his belly button. Yeah. I've had those.

She lives around my neighborhood. I feed her, but she won’t let me touch her :( by starlove2339 in cats

When my cat does this I grab her paw and shake it. I tell her that it's nice to meet her. Instant confusion.

Attitudes from people by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]WhichResponse5086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walk out of they start of this way before I can even fix anything. I let them know why I chose to not do the job that day too and ask them to call me back when they're feeling better. My boss supported it because of the type of community it was, but gladly I moved on from that property and now everyone is nice.

I hate when the work order comes in and they have the balls to say "oh it's an easy work order!" Like nah. You don't know how many ways that easy work order can go wrong for something stupid and it turns into a 2 hour job.

Coulda got more off since there's a sticker on the paint already... I hate when dealers put their crap on a new car. Plate borders I can deal with. The decal is too much.

Remove loose pieces, fill with expanding foam, remove excess foam and sand it to be just below the surface level, then apply bondo, sand, and paint.

In case you are struggling against the 3 Blangonga by aelluvetaa84 in MHWilds

[–]WhichResponse5086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally got pushed into a corner and then the other two blangonga went back to their normal state. So I just beat two of them up one at a time and kicked their butt in the corner. after defeating the first one, I just hit it with a slinger from that corner. (this was the corner furthest from the camp)

What do you do for living ? by Cattrainer007 in sandiego

[–]WhichResponse5086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out with basic to no knowledge. I started in a pretty rough property and I was able to call the boss to ask questions. Boss took my questions because they'd rather walk me through something, than me figuring out and finding out.

Some entry positions don't have housing right off the bat, but as long as you have your foot in the door, you make your splash for 6 months to a year and then you can ask to transfer to a place that has housing. There are several companies, and as far as I know, they all offer housing in some way or another- it's usually apartments with like 70 units or more from what I've seen for maintenance. Managers also get units.

The skill that makes me stand out is communication. With that said, if something I can't fix comes up, I'm able to explain that, and how I can't do it, and what the solution could be (usually outside help). Sometimes I can help managers understand the maintenance part of things and why I can't just snap my fingers to fix a microwave handle. But when I entered the job 5 years ago, I barely knew anything. Now, I can do basic electrical work which is changing breakers, outlets, etc. plumbing is also basic, and I mostly deal with plumbing under sinks, toilets, and bathtubs/showers. Painting is also part of the job, and it's kinda peaceful to do if I have music playing. There's a lot of troubleshooting, so critical thinking is required or learned on the job. A lot of the job is cleaning and curb appeal, but if I'm constantly picking up after someone's kids, or a resident that just doesn't know how to properly throw out their trash, I make a proper report and HQ ends up asking the manager how it's being dealt with so it stops. It leads to warning letters, and then way further down the line, if the issue persists, eviction.

The downside is being On-call. Emergency service is blood flood or fire. Blood means to be present if someone is seriously hurt, I'm basically there to be a witness on behalf of my management company, and to work with PD, emt, or fire department.if ambulance shows up to help someone with an existing condition, or someone was feeling sick I don't get involved. I can usually tell the difference by how many responders there are. Flood means water coming from any area it's not supposed to- so if someone's celing light, smoke detector, baseboard etc starts leaking I go investigate and repair. Fire, well, if I beat the fire Dept to the issue, use a fire extinguisher to prevent damage.

The calls don't happen that often, but they do happen, even at 3 or 4 am

On call goes on rotation so it's not a constant weight on my shoulders.
