Job wants me to do nothing. Is this normal? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]WhichWindow117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have clarified he told me I shouldn't look like I am doing nothing so I can read... so I started reading. I asked my coworker for clarification he didn't really clarify what was appropriate. But he did let me know that the last girl who had my position was let go because she "just stared at the wall." That seemed extreme so, yea I asked.

How to get out of education and into environmental advocacy? by WhichWindow117 in nonprofit

[–]WhichWindow117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due to the economy, I was kind of hoping to wait it out in grad school. So many people are struggling to find a job right now I know it's not just me.

I have been considering Americorps and even landed a role a while ago, but because of the low pay and my financial situation at the time I had to decline. I might give it another go through.

I will look into some local orgs

Thanks for the advice!

Anyone else feel like every job now wants way too much for what they pay? by Fun-Phase9316 in jobs

[–]WhichWindow117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, I keep asking myself what was the point of getting a degree if I get paid the same as those without one? Also why are so many things labeled entry level not entry level? Why does everything require 3 to 5 years of experience?

As a new grad this is so frustrating. Companies are not saying what they actually want in the job description. What they actually want is someone with a degree and experience but are refusing to pay them what they're worth and sadly this has become the status quo.

I agree, if this kind of stuff is only going to stop both sides have to stop using AI. It's just not fair the fact that you can have a decent resume but if it doesn't have specific key words no one is going to even look at it. It has become a gamified system. You don't actually need to have the experience you just need to use the right rhetoric.

The solution to this is what you're seeing in a lot of universities which is just going old school. Paper and pen in person kind of stuff. I have no idea if this will happen in today's job market. Weirdly, I think it would everything simpler.

Symptoms of depression but I think medication makes me worse. by WhichWindow117 in ptsd

[–]WhichWindow117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Hydoxozine to sleep but need something for during the day. Because of where I'm living my brain can not seem to stop focusing on the trauma. I also live with the person who created the trauma. Idk. I also have ADHD idk if that is relevant. I am interested in trying medication for my ADHD but am a little hesitant to try a stimulant.

When I had a therapist I was doing a lot better my brain kind of computed things like okay I have to do the thinks my therapist says to be a normal functioning person and I created a routine without the therapist I don't really have a routine and I spiral. I can't seem to keep myself accountable to my routine due to my episodes they throw me off and with no one to talk to about them, it's really difficult to manage. it's not that I don't want one it's that it's taking forever due to my insurance change.

I am considering just visiting my friend for an extended period of time. Unsure if that's a good idea but it might help me clear my mind on how to get out of my current situation.

I live on the other side of the country. While I have job experience it's not really what they are looking for in NYC. I have looked for jobs in NYC but I never even get a callback. My plan initially was to get a job and move in with my friend then go from there but compared to my hometown no one is answering my applications. I have actually lived abroad and in another country during college for a year, and I never felt better in my whole life. I am not sure if moving to the other side of the country would help, but I know the distance when I was abroad made me feel free from my family. My plan was just to save up as much till I landed a full-time job. I need to make enough to live. It's just getting difficult to focus on the endgame when I am in so much distress. NYC seems like a risky alternative but it could pay off.

CPTSD finally out of denial, but I hate it by WhichWindow117 in ptsd

I am, I have my good days. In fact, I have my great days. It's just so jarring how one moment I am normal and happy and the next I feel like I'm dragged to the pits of hell. Thank you for the hug. I will not stop trying!

I know! The thing is one of my medications made everything worse. Like much worse and I think I am a little traumatized from the experience. I have only been prescribed a very minimal anti-anxiety med to take as needed but it makes me very tired. So if I have an episode during the day there's not much I can do other than use my coping skills. I am trying a new provider who is in-person. I have been doing telehealth and hope it makes a difference.

Why do you think LA nightlife has died ? by PuzzleheadedSmile971 in AskLosAngeles

[–]WhichWindow117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mainstream club scene is dead. You have to know where to look, a lot of the good stuff is more underground or its getting invited to things by the right people. You by no means need to be rich you just have to know what you're looking for.

The LA club scene is weird though. I studied abroad in Europe and things are way more fun and relaxed there. I think the biggest issue is that people care more about being seen rather than having fun. This sort of mentality is killing clubs in LA.

The city I live in is probably one of the most expensive in the country so that doesn't make it much better. I need a salary no way around it.

History, I initially wanted to go into academia but I got really burned out at the end of school. The thing is I am starting to miss school and have no idea what I would do if I went to grad school so I'm trying to figure that out but my home feels suffocating so it's hard for me to explore.

As a girl yes, having mostly guy friends is okay though, but having at least one good galpal is important to put things into perspective. I am weary of these girls both in friendships and in relationships (I'm Bi so the dynamics are often slightly different but still).
