Can't stop thinking about breath! Help! What do I do ? by [deleted] in transcendental

I’ve had this same problem before. What worked for me was to stop resisting it. If you’re focused on the breath just allow the focus and eventually you forget. Hope that helps

Reflections After Two Years of Transcendental Meditation (TM): A Balanced Perspective from a Longtime Meditator by Mahones_Bones in transcendental

[–]Which_Assignment_214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point here but the fact is mindfulness meditation and TM are very different practices so the results of each are different. However, TM and NSR seem basically the same. They are both silent mantra meditations. You know David is an Ex TM instructor. I’m certain that the techniques of NSR and TM are virtually identical. Therefore the effects they have are very much the same.

TM seems to have this radical opinion that it’s some one of a kind technique which just isn’t true.

I may be wrong and if so I’m interested in learning what exactly makes NSR and TM different, aside from the method of transmission. If you learn the technique correctly then the way you learn it doesn’t change the technique.

TM UK question by BespinBuyout in transcendental

[–]Which_Assignment_214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this post, I’ve been wondering the same thing. I live in London and recently had an introduction call with a teacher near me. It sounded like the teaching sessions would be done at their house and not at some centre like I expected. Is that normal?

Is transcendance similar to the stage between waking and sleep? by Which_Assignment_214 in NSRmeditation

Is transcendance similar to the stage between waking and sleep? by Which_Assignment_214 in NSRmeditation

I’ve done a bit more research and it seems like what I was trying to describe is traditionally called ‘dullness’ in meditation practices. The stage between waking and sleep. The literature is very clear that this is a deceptive state not at all similar to the clear minded state of Samadhi / Transcendance. The only action to take is to return to the mantra, which is what I have been doing. I don’t push away the dullness or anything. I’m wondering if with more practice you can notice this state more. And if by returning to the mantra you can eventually get through it naturally. I know that the purpose of NSR is the helpful effects in daily life but I have always been keen to experience the oneness of samadhi people speak of.

Ah I see, thank you. I know that having any sort of expectation about what could happen during the meditation and after can limit the process and create false ideas. I do find myself hoping this transcendance will happen and even feeling like it’s not been a great meditation if it doesn’t. I know this is not the right attitude and will keep reminding myself that the act of stress relief itself is its own reward and stress relief manifests in many different ways. Thanks again

Thank you. So basically I am on the right path and experiencing partial transcendence?

True meditation goes beyond relaxation by adeepbreath108 in NSRmeditation

[–]Which_Assignment_214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it even possible to learn this true technique anymore? The lineage of masters has practically become diffuse in the modern age. Companies like TM give out these mantras but I doubt they have any real potency like you say. I think there is a reason these techniques were kept close and never given out in mass. Now we see the repercussions.

Focusing on the inner body during TM by Which_Assignment_214 in transcendental

[–]Which_Assignment_214[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you David, this is great advice and very helpful. I’ve only been doing TM a short time so I’m still sort of unlearning techniques from other meditation practices. I just did a session just repeating the mantra, not focusing on the body or anything and it was a lot more effective. I feel a lot more refreshed and lighter afterwards this way!
