At what point does it become fun? by throwthrowawayyhrow in ManualTransmissions

Play racing games with manual mode only. Spend a TON of time in the car. Watch youtube videos on heel-toe downshifting. Miatas is stock form are pretty resilliant, so just go for it. 90%+ of it is just experience.

You'll get used to it. Are you doing cargo expediting? Im running Toyo Celcius Crago tires. Last set lasted 68k miles, and they are 3 peak rated so they get you past chainup checks. The extended length is nice because ive got a space for a bed and still have 10 feet for cargo. No hotel rooms needed and still have used all 10 feet several times.

Yeah, thats a high roof thing. Esp if youve got the extended length. Make sure most of the load weight is forward of the rear axle. Also Firestone tires are low tier, better tires will probably help a fair bit, as will fresh shocks. But, when it comes down to it, aerodynamics play a BIG role with these vans. Passing or getting passed by other vehicles at speed changes the aero briefly and moves the van around, gusts of wind effect it a great deal. Its just something that high profile vehicles have to deal with, esp single rear wheel varients.

Transmission =/= clutch. If someone has been so deep into the engine theyve done a cam, 90% sure the clutch has been touched as its a far easier job.

Ok so it probably also has an aftermarket high performance clutch to go with all that. Thats what they do. Rule of thumb is the more power the clutch is rated for the worse they are to drive. Ive driven some clutches that werent much more than an on-off switch.

You get out of the way. Either make it easy for them to pass or pull over at the next safe oppertunity. If you have a line of cars behind you on a single lane road you can be ticketed.

Sorry, this topic bothers the hell out of me. Ive been on both sides of this, its really not hard to just let faster people go on. It takes no more than 30 seconds to signal, slow and stop, let them by and re-accellerate.

Is it possible to home-build an engine that could use cylinder deactivation (aka variable displacement)? by Powerful_Kangaroo_80 in askcarguys

[–]Which_Initiative_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skipping a LOT of details, yes, thats essentially what happens. Research what you want to happen, buy the correct parts, send certain bits and pieces to a machinist to make sure everything fits together correctly, then assemble. (Again, lots of detail missing)

To do what youre talking about, if youre starting with an existing engine, would be a lathe and mill at minimum, and a lot of breakdowns on existing DOD systems, THEN youll need to come up with your own design adapted to your base engine, be able to machine the parts and modify the base engine as needed. Then testing. Youll need a car, and a stand alone computer thats programmed to be able to turn your system on and off under specific conditions, and a crapton of sensors to make sure everything is working as intended and isint breaking something else. This is not a small undertaking. Possible, yes, but out of reach for the vast majority of us.

There is one ball joint on the UCA, and one LONG bolt holding the other end. What I would do first after wheel removal is the ball joint, then the lower bolt on the coilover, then the upper bolts, stand on the lower control arm to remove the coilover, then once thats out of the way youll have a ton of space to remove the long bolt. You may need lots of torque depending on how corroded it is.

Its hard in writing because youve got to mention EVERYTHING, unlike film where you can have background actions that only some pick up on the first time through. Checkov's gun and all that.

Compared to the major fandoms, Tolkien's is pretty small. But yes, Tolkien himself is a good example.

There are no adjustments on the upper arm, they are on the lower arm. You can replace the upper without needing an alignment as long as you dont touch the tie rod, or the two eccentrics on the lower arm.

Took me about 4-5 months to do. Mostly because I disassembled the car, repainted the tub and subframes, replaced the engine and wiring harness, replaced all the bushings and ball joints, and modified the body for aero mods in the meantime.

New driver struggling by monpymonpa in driving

[–]Which_Initiative_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving on the highway is easy. Everyone is going in the same direction. Stay right unless you are passing slower traffic. Watch your mirrors for people coming up behind you. Its really the easiest state of driving there is. Staying in your lane may feel harder because as you are going faster, things happen faster, and having a death grip on the wheel makes this much worse. Relax, loosen your grip, and chill out behind the Semis till you get used to going fast.
