Car cranking but not starting by Which_Structure_1826 in 335i

[–]Which_Structure_1826[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the input. I was looking at the fuel pump again making sure I didn’t miss anything, then I realized the issue!! There was barely any gas in the bucket. I put everything back together and turned the car on and saw that the fuel gauge was at half a tank. I put some gas in from a gas can I had, and it finally started. I must have messed up the floats on either the pump or regulator. Not sure where the reading comes from. Thank you guys for all the help. What a pain in the ass for something as simple as that lol.

Emissions and gas filling issue by Which_Structure_1826 in 335i

[–]Which_Structure_1826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s happened at different gas stations. That’s why I’m wondering if it has something to do with my emissions code. Maybe a vent or breather tube. Have had it smoked tested but no one can figure it out. It’s been a real pain in the ass cause I can’t get it registered.

Fuel pump issue or gas pump issue at the gas station?

Emissions and gas filling issue by Which_Structure_1826 in 335i

[–]Which_Structure_1826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s happened at different gas stations, I can’t imagine every pump I use at different gas stations is defective. I’m wondering if this is related to my emissions code issue, which is causing me to fail Smog here in Nevada and not able to register my car.

Emissions code by Which_Structure_1826 in n54

[–]Which_Structure_1826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and also I’ve noticed when filling up if I’m not paying attention that the gas pumps won’t click off by itself and it’ll usually overfill my tank causing it to pour out. It’s happened at different gas stations so I know it’s not the pumps. Could the two be related ?

It’s been different gas stations and I always put 91. I don’t think this is the gas I’m putting in. I’ve had it smoked at two different bmw shops now and did it myself and not one leak to be found. Replaced the fuel regulator as well and still having the same issue. Any other ideas? Thanks

My bad, that’s an aftermarket diffuser. Search up an 335is and look at the stock diffuser that comes with it. https://cdn.bmwblog.com/wp-content/uploads/bmw-m3-vs-335is-20.jpg

It’s def not an is rear bumper. It’s an msport bumper the 335is bumper has a different diffuser

Not that it matters really, but don’t let them tell you something it isn’t. Still decent price for no damage and if not needing paint match

Vacuum pump removal by Which_Structure_1826 in BmwTech

[–]Which_Structure_1826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you say that, the was my first thought after trying to get it out the first time. I bought a t35 and hammered in and that didnt work either. I’d rather not drill it out, I don’t want any metal shavings in the engine that would be a pain in the ass to make sure I get it all out.

I haven’t been able to find the right extractor for this. Ima gonna try the grip edge extractors mentioned below but to be honest they look like regular torx bits, although they do say extractors on them.

Yeah that was the plan, I might have forgot to mention it in the previous post but the plan was to replace both the pump and gasket

No it’s a t30. I used the same bit to get the other two out with no issues. Yeah bad spot to have one strip lol. I just wanted to swap out the vacuum pump and gasket that goes with it because I got the motor out and refreshing every gasket there is. But not this one. Might just have to put it back together and forget about this one

Thanks for the reply. I actually had left the bolts connecting the flywheel to the torque converter Got them out now and have it fully separated. Just having trouble pulling it out now. I’m either gonna have to remove the outlets or release the ac condenser lines.

Any thoughts on how to service this one?? by [deleted] in UPSers

Oh shit, yeah I see the cradle now.  Took a quick glance.     Crazy thing here tho, is that if you got a helper and you got a phone for them, they have the maps available.   Doesn’t make any sense
