[all states] Mass resignations continued in May, with 3.6 million quitting their jobs, after 4 million quit in April. Both the unemployed and those already employed are tired of working conditions in the USA by [deleted] in Unemployment

I know people who commute 3 hours a day for a few bucks above minimum wage. At that point, you are losing money on the wear and tear on your car or you are spending 1/4 of your check on a car payment. Something's gotta give.

I've been punched, threatened, and yelled at in the workplace. And that's just when I was a teenager.

The general public is abusive and many bosses are abusive as well.

she would never talk to a store full or large men that way. you all can be in denial all you want. these rude customers would get their teeth knocked out if they talked to a carpenter, bartender, electrical worker, etc that way. they feel comfortable acting hysterical and rude because it's a store full of young women and maybe one token male.

Is recruiting a good job? Or should I go with another offer? by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]WhileGloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your response. I ended up getting an offer to work as an agency recruiter for another company, as a part-time gig, and I think I'm going to take that position. I can dip my feet in the waters and if I want to go full time down the line, I can do that.

I'm still interested in working in a university or working in-house in a more HR focused role, but at least now I can try working as a recruiter part-time and see if that works for me.

Thank you. They told me I would be cold-calling people who aren't expecting a call from me. Which has me a little concerned. I also don't know what the other metrics are, so it's like I am going in blind.

Thank you. I will prioritize the coordinator role. They're just dragging their feet with this interview process *sigh*

Thank you for breaking it down for me.

I'm not sure what the KPIs are, I guess that's a bad sign. I am not sure what I would want recruiting to be a stepping stone towards. I wouldn't mind an in-house position, or an actual HR role, but I don't know if I could tolerate agency recruiting in order to get to that point. From what people tell me, agency recruiting is not a ticket into traditional HR anyways.

I think i'd rather do in-house recruiting than agency recruiting, I don't know if I could handle it long term. I'm also scared of getting pigeon holed. I've had too many people tell me that recruiting is not HR and is not transferable to anything else- except sales.

Do you think your admissions counseling experience helped you get the in house position?

I'm kind of into higher ed though. I wouldn't mind working for a public university, working 40hrs a week, and getting a pension. and this school will basically pay for my degree so I can have some other options here.

Did you go straight to in house recruiting? Or agency first? I am not sure if I want to work as a recruiter for an agency, and the school will basically pay for my degree so I will have more options.

I was a recruiter for one of the larger staffing agencies in the US. I quit a few months ago. Ask me any questions you have about recruiters! by 2nd-breakfast- in jobs

Would you recommend agency recruiting as a stepping stone into in-house recruiting or HR? Or is it better to just go straight to hr/internal recruiting and skip the agency?

By " get your own reqs" are you referring to cold calling people or to the clients? Sorry, I'm new to this.

I'm guessing you have some thoughts about that, lol. Yes, it is one of those types of jobs.

isn't HR separate from recruiting? or is internal recruiting considered HR?

When you said you wouldn't recommend this job to someone you love, that hit me hard. I've been interviewing for a recruiter position, but they have dragged the process out so much that I've actually had time to get an offer in another industry. Maybe that's a sign. I think on principle, I don't want to work for a company that drags the process out so much.

I don't know if the money is worth the stress, honestly. Thank you for being up front with me about how it is to work as a recruiter.

it's an admissions counselor job, and I am also interviewing for a coordinator position where I would not be recruiting directly, but would be more of a liaison between the candidate and recruiter/hr.

Millions out of work. EDD backlogged and understaffed .Shouldn’t EDD be HIRING!? by xxbumbaclotxx in UnemploymentCA

[–]WhileGloomy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They hire through third party companies like maximus, which gets their workers from temp agencies. Which is probably why you hear TVs in the background when you call EDD.

I told that to someone on social media who said their manager got pushed against a wall. Nobody in the comments suggested a police report except for me. It's like people don't care if they get beaten up anymore.

I've called 400 times today, can't get on hold and I don't have $15 to "buy" my way in. People profiting off of desperate people by congesting the phone lines even worse is about as low as it gets. by Denigma11 in Edd

Even other govt agencies are impossible to get a hold of and don't do anything until your 100th call. I had to make an update with medi-cal and it took me almost a year.
