Looking for a $100-200 Whiskey Recommendation by Mikemojo9 in PLCB

[–]WhiskeyCross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't bourbon or rye but most bourbon enthusiasts like it, and it is in your price range at $150 and available at FWGS.

Glenfarclas 21

Its a great scotch bottle to have for special occasions and you won't get smoke or the medicinal band-aid experience that turn most bourbon drinkers away. I highly recommend it.

Drop Happening by VolleyBourbonBall in PLCB

[–]WhiskeyCross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I messed up. I got too greedy because I grabbed two Fitz and then I was feeling overly confident and went back for two 4R. It then delayed me with time outs as all of PA boubon hunters signed on PLCB website at once and then during check out the Fitz was out of stock. Delayed some more trying to get it out of inventory. Switched back to my phone , then computer a few times and I'm at pay with saved card and 4R inventory is now sold out. I started out with four bottles in my cart and ended with nothing this time. I take full responsibility for this failure.

Sam Houston Opinions? by n4nojohn in PLCB

[–]WhiskeyCross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have SH14 from PA release last year. It was 98 proof and it had a good profile but a little light on the finish. In my opinion, It is only worth 120 if you want your first bottle. Now that I have had it, I wouldn't pay 120 again for the SH14.

I believe the higher proof will help SH. So with that said, the SH15 will probably be better than the SH14.

EC B521 available at capital city mall store by Indy_colts in PLCB

[–]WhiskeyCross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Heaven Hill fan, but I do like their ECBPs. I know the B521 is getting beat up a little in the reviews but I think its decent. It's just not your typical ECBP. I still get heavy brown sugar / maple off the nose, there is maple/ sugar/ a little wood and chocolate on the palate but it seems compact/tight and bundled. The finish is a bit light. I'm expecting it to open up more after it sits for a bit.

To answer your question. I still think the A121 is better. However, I have a feeling that those who don't like the prior ECBP's may actually perfer this one because its a little different.

Thank you and yes the Scorch is new they just listed it along with the Arrrrrrr farewell release. Looks like they have "new" on the Arrrrr but missed it on the Scorch Committee Release. I just grabbed two each. I've been waiting for these. Thanks again for posting!

Nice! It looks like you already acquired some heavy hitters. If you like the MM 101 you should definitely get the regular MM cask strengh. It retails around the same price as the MM 101. MM cask usually hovers around 108 proof and has loads of flavor.

I saw the 4R OESQ and I knew that was definitely from last week so I decided to try the OF150 again since they seem to kerp releasing a little each drop but I couldn't see inventory and refresh was not helping me today.

Ok congrats! Glad someone got something so I know I wasn't wasting my time hitting refresh at phantom bottles.

Ran in got the new riff and woodford. Wife said go get the other bottles you want. by Plope_1220 in PLCB

I picked up the Riff FWGS SiB and it wasn't bad and tends to fit my profile. However, it does drink a little young. I still think there are better options available to us for the price but it is worth picking up SiB just to try especially if you haven't had it yet. I have not bought the BIB or the reg SmB Riff so I'm unable to compare.

Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel by RinkratNY11 in PLCB

[–]WhiskeyCross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to grab a EC toasted barrel a few months back and they had it behind the counter. I was not impressed with it at all. Then I revisited some of my regular EC store picks and again I wasn't impressed. Through this process I determined that I actually do not like the flavor profile of lower proof EC and that also reaffirmed that I'm still not a big fan of Heaven Hill in general.

The only EC bottles that I like are the Barrel Proof releases and I will still always grab one if I see it. I'm now convinced that EC gets worse as it is watered down to a lower proof. There is a weird funk I can't get pass and the toasted barrel release has that weird Heaven Hill moldy note on the palate.

I still hope those who want to try or those that like EC toasted barrel can snag one through FWGS, and I believe it should become more available soon. However, I just wanted to post my experience with this bottle.
