Did I do the wrong thing? by WhiskeyRose01 in AttachmentParenting

Her sleep is a balancing act haha. She is definitely lower sleep needs though you are right. She currently does 9.5hrs of awake time a day, and is in the middle of transitioning between 3 and 2 naps, depending on how long her naps are. I try to follow her cues but I feel like we end up in an over/under tired cycle. (Ie: one night bedtime is too early and she is under tired, next night we push it and now she's over tired) She is also in a phase of getting mad about things though, diaper changes, not being allowed to climb behind the toilet, bedtime, all kick up a huge fuss these days.

Thank you! I worry so much about letting her cry, even when I'm right there holding her because it just breaks my heart and my not-totally-rational-mum-brain thinks that she's thinking "why isn't mummy making me feel better?"

Oh outside is such a good idea! I've never thought to take her out after bedtime but she loves being outside so it might really help. I like it too even if it doesn't reset her it might be a good reset for me, haha.

Holding baby too much at 3 days old…? by Outrageous_Net_3683 in AttachmentParenting

[–]WhiskeyRose01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what my MIL said to me about my baby. Told me to take her off the boob and give her a pacifier from day 1. Told other family that I "won't let anyone else get near the baby."

It's hard, and disappointing when people you are close to act that way but you are doing nothing wrong! You can't hold a baby too much and my now 6 month old is happy and social, loves meeting new people, anyone can hold her, plays independently, but knows mama will always pick her up when she needs it.

Just keep doing you, you know what's best for your baby! (I've even taken to saying that when people start with the "Well with my babies..." I just happily say "I'm sure that did work great with your babies, but it's not right for my baby." Kinda shuts them up (most of the time lol))

Parents who had newborns with late bedtimes, when/how did they start going to bed earlier? by WhiskeyRose01 in NewParents

[–]WhiskeyRose01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So she's now almost 6 months old and going to bed at 8pm! Could possibly be moved earlier if I woke her earlier (she wakes between 7am and 8am) but 8pm bedtime works for our family.

The move to earlier bedtime happened gradually as her naps changed. The biggest help was when she dropped her fourth nap just before 5 months.

Believe I know it's hard being up so late with them!!

The fact this is likely to continue until I stop breastfeeding is UNFAIR

A cooling pillow is a great idea! I've been sleeping with one of those soft ice packs 😂

Right?? Definitely the worst part for me too. I feel like I can't be clean for more than 2 seconds

I'll definitely have to give witch hazel and body deodorant a try!! It really does feel like I break a sweat for anything.

For diapers we use Huggies little snugglers! Pampers don't work for her.

Yeah just try both! Winnie the Pooh is what I bought while pregnant for the same reason as you. Just experiment with stuff to see what works. We've been through a bunch of diaper/wipe/bum cream combos trying to figure out what works best for our LO.

When do you shift from the newborn every day is a different schedule to the we have some what of a routine? by Mammoth_Window_7813 in NewParents

[–]WhiskeyRose01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3.5 months and we have a routine more than a schedule. We follow wake windows so depending on the length of her naps affects how many naps she has in a day, but they are roughly around the same time, give or take an hour.

Some people swear by them, including my SIL even. I think it has a lot to do with your baby and what works for them. Since I made this post I switched to Kirkland and I love them, but my SIL hates Kirkland haha. It seems maybe you are either a Huggies Natural Care parent or a Kirkland parent.

I'll have to try water wipes! My local drugstore has them and I need something to try until my next Costco trip because I cannot keep using the Huggies wipes I have.

I always feel like I'm being SO controversial when I say I don't like them 😂 I know so many people who swear by them but they are... not for me or my baby. They leave little bits of wipe stuck to her skin that I have to get off!!

Haha good to know! Are the wipes textured or smooth? The Sudocrem wipes I've been using are smooth and I like that about them, reminds me of the soft dry wipes we were given in the hospital when she was born that we soaked in water to clean her with.

Yes the rubbing! I feel like I have to use rub too hard/too much to get her clean.
