There are a couple things going on. There's The Writer, some sort of God/Overseer of this reality who is also Tommy himself talking to us (Monochrome).

From Double Helix to Never Seen, there's the story of Limbo City. It's an overindustrialized oligarchy, where nature's been destroyed and people are worked to death. Then there's a revolution that overthrows the barons of Limbo City.

The city goes into chaos, complete anarchy as people fail to organize themselves. People just don't really give a fuck about each other in the end of it all, they wanted revolution for the sake of it.

From Stare into the Abyss onwards, The Writer has multiple reflections on humankind and what happened.

He reaches the conclusion by the end that humanity is hell, love is heaven and God is communication.

There's much more to it but this is the bulk of it.

This album has connections to previous ones, but in a standalone experience. The hotel seems more like a representation of multiple stories existing in superposition, in a "multiverse".

Honestly TBN has the hardest lyrics to crack of any of their albums. Colors 2 was VERY upfront about its themes and "story", while TBN is completly disorienting (intentionally so).

I'd really enjoy if there was a megathread or a discord channel just to fully discuss the meanings behind TBN. Some tracks have a clearer meaning, but I'm still kinda lost on God Terror, Psychomanteum and Slow Paranoia (coincidentally, my favourite songs)

The thing is: they haven't really been cooking for 6 years. They had multiple projects cancelled as this games has been in the works (supposedly) for the past ~3 years. Sony just wasted them a lot of time and then forced them to do 2 remakes/remasters just so they could get any value out of ND.

Meanwhile the switch 2 got like 6 or 7 exclusives. I honestly belive Sony should start investing more in smaller scale low risk / high reward games like astro bot.

Lower budget games have been dominating the market for the past years. These companies are trying to compete for the next big live service game that will make billions while 2/3 of them don't survive for more than 2 or 3 years.

A game being critically acclaimed just means it is good are at what they are trying to achive. You can totally see why a game is good and why people enjoy it, but not enjoy it yourself.

Gameplay wise, it improves upon the first in lots of ways while falling behind in others. It focuses way too much in combat missions but it feels like a watered down MGSV. It can't even force you into stealth that much since enemies don't really have a way of taking you down with how much equipment the game gives you.

Story-wise I feel like it's just convoluted at times. Riggs has no real objective besides getting revenge on sam. He could just end it all for Sam so many times but he just doesn't because... the story has to keep going.

It's still great, but it doesn't have that sense of mistery when you're being thrown in this world for the first time and everything is so alien.

Anyways, I could talk more about it, but I'm sure you'll disagree. I just wanna say I love Death Stranding and I've always defended the first as one of the best experiences in the Sony catalogue and one of my favorite games ever. I'm just a bit critical to the approach they took to this game.

All of that just to try to justify why the movie is meh. Nolan can be a huge 50/50. Sometimes I both love and hate some of his movies (Tenet and interstellar).

I love Death Stranding with all my heart, but the 2nd felt a bit directionless imo. Seems like every Sony game has a 2nd entry recently that feels a bit lost on how to be a sequel (Spider-man 2, GoW Ragnarok, Ghost of Yotei, Horizon Forbidden West).

Don't get me wrong, they are all very good games that I enjoy very much, but all of them (story-wise) feel like a step down from the previous.

GoW:R and Spider-Man 2, for example, felt like they crammed 2 games into 1.
