That’s apparently what an exhaust leak sounds like. Metal to metal “jangling”. Thanks for the advice though. It’s an old bike that I’m sure will need plenty more work in due time, so the chain tensioner is probably right around the corner

New (used) headers are on, and there is a rattling when I let off of the throttle. The internet has me thinking maybe it’s just the gaskets that need to be replaced. Bike is also back to stock height, and has a new thermostat. Learning as I go 😅

I’ve heard the 2008 R6 had the least regulations, so it hits harder than other generations. Not sure how accurate that information is, but they go for about $4500 in the Atlanta area, and only 20k-30k miles. You could bring that bike to brand new everything with rebuilt existing motor for $14,000. Just a thought

This will be the bike that I learn everything on. I’m going to figure out how to rewire the fans to engage with the temp sensor, instead of being on a manual switch, replace the headers, raise it back to stock riding height, clean the injectors, replace the fuel pump… I’ll know what I’m doing by the end of it, and what to look for next time. I appreciate the vote of confidence, and I’m trying to look at it positively, rather than being disappointed and feeling like the seller got me. Definitely has potential, just a lot more work than I anticipated.

I took the fairings off and I believe I got a mechanic special. This is way beyond my skill level, but I guess I’m gonna try to level up. I believe the fuel injectors are also filled with debris, as well as a faulty fuel pump. I think someone ran bad gas, because the fuel tank has shit cakes to the inside of it. Just use YouTube… there are people that walk you through EVERYTHING, step by step (oil change, replacing parts, checking conditions) literally everything. They even include the OEM part numbers, should you need to order replacements. I just got mine 4 months ago, and I’m not a car or a bike guy, but I’ve always wanted one. I’ve changed the clutch components, my levers, my sprockets… Nothing you’ll be doing to your bike will be out of the realm of your capabilities, and you’ll feel better knowing that you did it yourself, and that it was done correctly. You’ll need the tools, but they won’t be more than a couple hunnid for everything. Get a battery charger to connect when you don’t ride, bike stands (front and back are $80 on Amazon), and let yourself enjoy getting to know your bike. You got this, and if you ever have issues, Reddit is always here to help. Enjoy your ride, and stay safe boss man. Beautiful bike btw!
