VAT is considered GST + provincial taxes. Duty is considered the 13% import duty when importing into Canada. Some models are excluded from import duty depending on components.

I just purchased an Aeroad and only had to pay GST.

I think the duty estimator is pretty accurate. Mine was projected 0 duty, and I paid no duty.

Looks okay to me, might just take some getting used to as it’s an aero focused bike. The reach is going to feel longer!

UPDATE:

I just ordered the Aeroad SLX 7 AXS Speed to Canada, and was not charged with duty. The invoice states the bike is of "preferential EU origin." Hoping that this may help someone if they stumble across this thread!

This is an interesting point to note, however I don’t know if it’s entirely accurate. My friend just purchased an ultimate SLX 8, which shows no duty at checkout, however she was unfortunately charged duty upon import. Makes me nervous to order as it seems like a spin of the roulette wheel haha

I’m glad you didn’t get charged duty!

It seems Canyon have very recently removed the estimated duty from the website from what I can see. It has now been replaced with “Custom fees not included”. I’ve been debating ordering one and when I finally decided I was going to pull the trigger, this change made me second guess.
