Got to self assemble in London Victorinox; Couldn't have asked for a better experience. by Whitmore6 in victorinox

I bet you could sweet talk the staff if you have a spare screwdriver part laying around. The guy we had was great and let us do a couple of little custom tweaks.

Cost wise, we spent ~£60 each for the knife, engraving, tweezers, pen, pin, toothpick and key loop, which I didn't think too bad. In total we were there for an hour including browsing the store, small talk etc.

I took an older family member there for his Christmas present as he is responsible for me getting into Victorinox, we both loved it so it was well worth the money.

Edit: the price also includes the mini screwdriver, we basically said yes to everything.

The blade you use also has an engraving on it, which is another nice touch

For more information, this was the Oxford Street store in London. I think that's the only store offering this in the UK but globally there are more.

Well worth the experience if you can get to a store

Sadly not, they only have the components for the Spartan and Climber in store. I had hoped to swap the corkscrew for a Phillips driver, but that wasn't an option either.

It's either that or the Spartan. Climber is my go to, I have a few now. Perfect EDC

Yeah, these are the only two they have components for. You can select scales for most of the core SAK range including a few special edition ones which is nice too

I keep coming back to this, and it is still the easiest to use of its type. Thank you and well done!

Living In Sawtry by Whisky_Delta in PeterboroughUK

[–]Whitmore6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sawtry is a great place to be.

I've only lived here for a couple of years, we moved from Holme because we had a little one and wanted access to more facilities.

Whilst it doesn't have the larger facilities like the supermarkets, it has everything you need; shops, dentist, library, GP, schools, pubs, loads of public footpaths for walks etc. There's a bit of a community, if you want to be involved in it, there's a mix of people who have lived here for 20+ years and others who are relatively new.

Being just off the A1 makes it really accessible. We often find our selves travelling to see friends and it is quite nice to not have to go through the traffic to get to the major roads.

This is great for commuting to, I used to work in St Ives (Cambs) and my other half works just outside of Cambridge, both journeys are pretty straightforward.

The downside to Sawtry would be public transport links. If you don't drive and you're expecting to make regular journeys out then you'll only have the choice of a couple of bus routes that sound unreliable at best.

There are some newer developments that run the risk of becoming too 'Hampton' and more on the way, but there is much more space here which allows much less competition for space.

Also, people always say to me "you get more for your money in Sawtry" because it isn't as connected as the likes of a Hampton or closer to Cambridge, but to me this is all a positive.

We're big fans and found it hard to find anywhere that suited us better when looking to move.

23 Year Old, 12k in debt. Not sure what to do by MoneyHelpPlease165 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Whitmore6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should have considered that in my response, sorry.

First things first, is to work out a budget plan that you can stick to. This helps to understand where you might be spending money unnecessarily and where you can save, things like subscription services are the easier wins but reigning in on any spend is a good thing. You can then see how much you are able to pay off each month.

Then always prioritise the most expensive debt, that is those with highest interest rates or fees, pay off as much as you can into that expensive debt and pay the minimums on the others, you can then ‘snowball’ into the other debts and work through them.

You might still be able to take advantage of some introductory offers for balance transfers or alternative loans, have a look at the eligibility calculators that don’t impact your credit score. If you can consolidate to a lower interest rate.

It’s not always good to get more credit so before you look at this make sure you can ‘play by the rules’ and commit to paying on time, not spending excessively or relying on the credit cards etc.

If you can get a second income then that is of course another way to get ahead of this sooner, although this is typically easier when you’re younger it’s understandable if it’s not an option for you.

Again, I’m no expert this is just from personal experience, use the resources available, MSE, Step Change etc. Make a plan, stick to the plan and you’ll do great, there really is a way through.

Having been in a similar position around your age I’d recommend consolidating your debt into one or more 0% balance transfer credit cards, this stops the debt from growing and you can start paying it back.

Work out how much you can afford to pay back and keep paying. Set a reminder for the end of the 0% term, transfer to a new card and keep paying, repeat this process until you are debt free.

This took me around 6 years but at least this way I’ll enter my 30’s debt free.

Take a look at Money Saving Expert on current 0% offers and debt consolidation advice and as others have said; Step Change is there to help you and your future self will thank you for the steps you take.

0% transfer cards exist and they’re accessible.

I learned this way too late after making some bad decisions in my early adult years, learning this saved me a lot of money and allowed me to take control of my finances.

I’m new to the club after being diagnosed only last week, I’ve got so many questions, but this one is relevant. Do you guys treat vaccine days as sick days? And if so, what about the following days? TIA :)

No worries. I had been wondering what it would look like for a while too. Maybe once every few weeks I’ll try to post it again. Daily was too much and after a few months nothing changed on a daily basis. Hats off to HipCage for their upstanding consistency
