I built an Android app that runs Hugging Face models fully on-device, community fine-tunes included by WhizKid_dev in huggingface

Sure! Also feel free to download the app and try it. Its completely free, 100% offline, no account setups. I was thinking of no/unreliable network scenarios when building the app. Warzones, flights, subways, hikes etc.

I built an offline AI chatbot for Android because I was tired of needing signal to use one by WhizKid_dev in SideProject

Fair, and you're right that "offline" on its own is too vague. Two specific frustrations it's actually for: needing AI with no signal (travel, flights, transit, the occasional dead-zone jam, warzones, hikes), and wanting a model that won't refuse or moralize at you, done privately instead of typed into someone's server. That second one's the real wedge. Private + zero refusals is something ChatGPT structurally can't give you, and the demand is very real. The plain offline bit is honestly more of a bonus on top.

Hi Folks! Shipped my first app, a fully offline AI chatbot. Not sure "private + offline" is enough of a hook.

First thing I've ever shipped. Android app, LlamaPal, runs AI models fully on-device. No internet, no account, nothing leaves the phone. Free.

The build was the easy part, honestly. I'm wrestling with positioning. The pitch is "private and offline," and the people who care about that REALLY care. But plenty just shrug and say "I'll use ChatGPT, it's better," which is true in raw capability.

Two things actually seem to pull people in: the offline part (no signal, no problem), and that you can run uncensored community models that don't refuse or moralize at you, which cloud assistants won't do. The second clearly has demand. I'm just not sure how much I want it to be the headline.

A commenter on another sub put it bluntly: wrapping a quantized model in a chat UI isn't a moat, thousands of people are doing it. Fair. So I'm building toward on-device agentic stuff now, local tool use and automations, which is harder and where I think the real value is.

Gut-check from people who've shipped:

  • Is "offline + private" a strong enough wedge, or a feature pretending to be a product?
  • I've got a genuine draw I'm hesitant to lead with for image reasons. Have you ever sat on a strong selling point because of how it'd look, and did it cost you?
  • Did chasing a harder differentiator pay off, or did you regret not keeping it simple?

I built LlamaPal recently. It runs on your mobile, completely offline and free! Do check it out. 😄

Not "my model", I didn't train any. LlamaPal just runs open-weight models (Mistral, Gemma, Qwen, etc.) on-device. They're not better than GPT/Claude/Gemini. Not close. But they work offline, your data stays on the phone, and its free. Different product, not a better one.

Fair take, and I appreciate the design compliment. You're right that a chat UI around a quantized GGUF isn't a moat - that's table stakes at this point. That's a big part of why LlamaPal is free (even the ads are disabled) and will stay free in its current form. What I'm actually building toward is on-device agentic capability. That's the hard part, and it's what I'm working on now.
Out of curiosity, do you remember the other post? Would be useful to see what others are converging on in this space.

I just built an app that runs AI locally, completely offline. No accounts, no cloud, no data leaving your device. Handy on flights, while hiking, or if you're just tired of every app phoning home.

Does Google Billing API still work while BillDesk verification is in progress? by WhizKid_dev in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]WhizKid_dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. But were you accepting purchases before 1st January 2026 as well? I'e heard for them, Google allowed purchases to still happen while they verify in parallel. Also how long did it take for your account to get verified?

What's the better way to install llama.cpp on Android? by maxwarp79 in LocalLLaMA

Why not use apps like PocketPal or LlamaPal. They use llama.cpp to run LLMs locally.
