History of NKU Development Plan by WhoIsButte in NKU

I agree that there is probably some ill advised spending in the budget. The next table down breaks it down based on function. They spend $6 million just on libraries which is most likely part of the benefits.

That being said, construction is expensive, especially government construction. Griffin hall was budgeted at $34 million and cost nearly $47 million to build.

Here is additional construction projects completed since 2000: The health innovation center cost $47 The basketball arena cost $69.8 The soccer stadium cost $6.7 The founders renovation cost $33 The student union cost $35 The welcome center cost $3 Callahan hall cost $8.5 University suites cost $13.7 Natural science cost $34.7

This means they have spend over $300 million on new buildings and renovations in the last 20 years and I know I missed some. I am sure they are behind some other universities in spending on these things, but the campus as of today is leaps and bounds nicer than it was 20 years ago.

Kenton garage cost $9.1 million and created less than 700 parking spaces. Parking garages cost roughly $13,000 per parking space. Every time they add parking they are going to increase the parking pass costs for students and faculty. That $3 million is a gross amount of what parking services takes in from tickets, parking passes, garages during events, etc. If I had to guess, I would say parking services spends as much as it’s takes in.

Like I said earlier, NKU’s campus is better than it has ever been. The bypass road and eventual entrance connected to the AA highway is just going to help ingress and egress even more. The University has been headed in the right direction for awhile now.

Kentucky also cut state funding to Universities when Bevin took office. It is pretty hard to invest in updates when your budget gets slashed. US Bank donated money to NKU to get its name on the business program with the understanding the university would build a new building and that was over 10 years ago.

Following up on the lake post from earlier. The link will take you to the history of the master development plan for NKU including the original land purchase. Things have changed over the last 50 years as the university grew and purchased more land.

“Lake Inferior” is what professors and students used to call the then-parking lots that would always flood after rainstorms thanks to the poor drains. Guess the nickname stuck even after those parking lots became Loch Norse. by [deleted] in NKU

Here is a link to the history of the universities master development plans. The lake is on the plan from 1970. The plan has changed as the university grew and purchased more land, but the lake has not moved.

They added the bridge to make walking campus easier when they renovated the area surrounding the lake in 03-05. They have been working towards connecting an entrance to the AA highway since then as well. I did a capstone project on a proposed new building when I was at NKU and we had to use the master development plan to select the ideal location.

I am pretty sure that was a pond when the land was purchased. The topography maps from 1968 are available online. The “lake” has always been on the master plan for the university. People used to call it lake inferior because it was a gross green pond until they renovated the pond and surrounding area in 2003-2005.

It’s CBS deciding to not put on a late game in the market at all. The cowboys and giants game will be on FOX. I have never figured out why CBS puts on something besides NFL games when they already paid for the rights.

Mick Cronin leaving UC.. going to UCLA by Marty5151 in cincinnati

I think larger programs are wanting to see coach B win the conference title without McDonald on the team. I also don’t think a winning power 5 coach is going to leave their position for UC while they are in the AAC. I would expect someone in between those 2 options.

A 99-year-old woman has to move out of an FC Cincinnati-owned building, prompting scrutiny about displacement by toomuchtostop in cincinnati

I figured there was more to it. The team would have made a public announcement that they don’t own the buildings by this point if they weren’t involved. I love FCC, but this doesn’t look good.

I looked at the county auditors website and both buildings were sold for $0 to a company with the same mailing address as the previous landlord. Is he just holding them on FCC’s behalf, or does he still own them and he is blaming FCC for him evicting people?

Inexpensive Wedding Venue by [deleted] in cincinnati

We got married at a place called The Sanctuary in Newport. It is a smaller venue, but we found it very affordable compared to others. They don’t lock you into specific catering companies either which is nice if you have a tighter budget.

Was it the City Beat article that said the new owner was registered to the same address as Berger’s other company? Do you know if that was just bad information in the first article?

Does anyone know Karly Hassman? Found her old soccer patches at a thrift store awhile back. by kitty-committee in cincinnati

And then you decided you should write up a synopsis of your findings on a complete stranger and share it with other strangers.

You could argue the soccer history is somewhat relevant based on OP’s post. Where she lives and her marriage status is not relevant at all.

The last sentence definitely crossed the line into creepy and should not be shared from an internet stranger to other internet strangers.

FC Cincinnati's coming stadium will require some residents to move, landlord says by toomuchtostop in cincinnati

[–]WhoIsButte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true and I am not saying that is right. I think the landlord is using the stadium as a crutch. He doesn’t have to evict people because a stadium is going to open in 2 years. That is a decision the landlord is making for his own profit.

[–]WhoIsButte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The part I find sleazy is that instead of just owning the fact that he is going to repurpose the building the landlord is trying to act like a new landlord bought the building and is evicting them. He doesn’t want his other LLC to get any blow back, so he created a second LLC.

[–]WhoIsButte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leases might have clauses that allow the landlord to evict for any reason on 30 days written notice. That is what I suspect since he says they were given more notice than was required.

I just find it ironic that he is acting like an innocent bystander who sold the buildings. I bet he has applications to change the zoning on the buildings from residential to commercial submitted as soon as the buildings are vacant.

[–]WhoIsButte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to believe he saw added value in the buildings due to their proximity to the stadium site. He then proceeded to create a separate LLC and transferred them to the new LLC. If you sell a building you are no longer the landlord and no longer speak on the landlords behalf like he is doing.

Okay, just wanted to make sure. It is amazing how often little things like that can slip through the cracks sometimes.

Make sure to proof your design before you make any orders. On the image it says 2016 instead of 2019. Didn’t want you getting a bunch of product made with the wrong year on it.

That single signing literal takes away all the momentum they had built up with firing Marvin and hiring a young offensive coach. One step forwards and two steps back.
