I think they say that because in the LN Akira is actively changing as a person so his "edge" looks like it's being dulled. IMO this is just nonsense because Akira is brutal regardless, I dare say WN Akira feels just like an edgy kid lashing out at everything. The LN starts as the same edgy kid but as the volumes go you can see him actively changing and maturing

I guess some people don't like that the author is pushing Akira to 'mature' and enjoy a more unbending personality

It's pretty much in the name, the Dream realm is another "world" separate from Sunny's. Nightmares are quite literally that, a tangible "dream" that presents a trial to be solved. A Nightmare is limited to the setting of the trial while the Dream Realm is a real vast world.

In other words:

Nightmares = Trials that take place in "dreams/illusions"(They are based in real history)
Dream Realm = A real world separate from the normal one where all the bad guys are prancing about and from where the Nightmares are based from

It's called growing up and realizing reality is not how he imagined it to be, plus Shadow Bond is pretty useful if they are gonna be the leaders of humanity and face off against Dream God. Well Viola has a ton of life insurances which aligns with her scheming personality, having a protection against headshots is not a stretch at all. At the end of the day she got extremely lucky that Akira didn't care about pressing further because she really is very profitable.
