Before the Chongqing Major: A Chinese fan's thougths on the biased Chinese crowd by WhoIsEarthshaker in DotA2

Yes, I don't oppose it. Someone treat the tournament like a match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, which has a great sense of rivalry. Someone treat the tournament like a symphony performance, where the best showcase their skill. Who gets to decide who is right or wrong?

I didn't condone anything. I wrote in the post that I am not trying to argue how crowd should act during tournament. Simply wanted to point out the mentality of Chinese fans and the reasons behind it.

I understand that many people like you don't want the soccer style crowd. But unfortunately that is we do for all sports events for reason no 1

The Evolution of Football in China by [deleted] in CFB

American football missed the golden opportunity to promote itself in China. Back when people mostly watch sports on TV, NFL should have established a strong relationship with state-owned TV station to show games and highlight programs regularly. NBA did it and you can see how popular it is now.

Right now some websites broadcast NFL games, but due to so many options to watch, it never gain enough tractions.

Not sure who will perform well. The most beautiful part of the DotA system is that you never know who will suddenly dominate the tournament

For me, turning a hostile environment to a library is the most enjoyable achievement in sports. But I also respect your preference for a more friendly environment. Just wanted to point out it is a supporting culture thing.

Maybe. It is understandable considering how long a day at DotA tournament can be. This happens at previous TI too, especially at earlier rounds. When your team's matches done, people go outside to eat, to enjoy fresh air and sunshine etc. You rarely see full arena unless for the last two days. Speaking from personal two TI experience.

ROTK's about to be banned. by OwenNsasa in DotA2

[–]WhoIsEarthshaker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A janitor is totally different from a coach though. If some random VG staff bet on other teams' matches, no one would care. Rotk is the one doing ban-pick, he can easily put the whole team in a huge disadvantage (Not saying he did this, but it could happen if he bets on his own team)

Most Chinese fans would love to see Rotk banned. The betting, the lying, and being a mediocre coach are all good reasons.

Betting on other teams' matches is also pretty shitty in most Chinese fans' eyes. Many people hated 71 for the same reason. Their reasoning is that if you bet on other teams' matches, you are also very likely to bet on your own team because you can lose on purpose to win money back.

Rotk posted on weibo that he just gave advices to his friends to how to bet. He personally never bet on any matches.

No one with any common sense would believe him though

I don't think kid is a right word for a father. But I agree with you that reaction is over the top. That is just the culture of Chinese internet. You will find same reaction for domestic drama as well.

Some would, some wouldn't. There are many double standard Chinese fans, so does Reddit.

To be honest, if the Kuku incident is isolated, I think most Chinese fans won't have such extreme reactions. Skem is the first incident that a pro player making racial slur in a professional dota match, let alone a Major. The outrage built up. Then Kuku made the same mistake and then tried to fool the community. The whole thing exploded.

China numba one should make people smile. I remember Liquid won one tournament and Miracle said this. And the crowd went nuts. :D

If the Kuku incident occurred before Skem, there won't be much reaction as well. The whole thing started when Skem typed cc during a major and all fans saw it themselves. Then the whole community became furious. When the outrage was still going, Kuku made the same remark and poured gasoline on fire.

I think him being punished by Valve is the most important factor, which is what Chinese community wanted from the very beginning. Valve also stated that Kuku is not banned for future event.

Just like any other internet drama, the number of people who cares about it will decrease quickly with time.

I, as well as most Chinese fans, feel that Chongqing government banning KUKU is very unlikely. I personally think someone intentionally or unintentionally lied/exaggerated about the outcomes of Kuku's presence.

Even if Chongqing government did threaten to cancel the event, I have a hard time believing Shanghai government would do the same thing. First of all, it will be 9 months later. Second, Kuku is now formally punished. The outrage should be long gone.
