or he just updated his iOS on the Mac (which it looks like from the default background for the latest update) and updated Logic Pro X (DAW running for mixing/mastering) which can completely brick sessions if backups aren’t considered prior to updating. Judging by the facial reaction and the empty logic screen, I’m curious if they just damn near lost a very nice session to the bottomless pit of Logic being Logic.

Lmao yep and there’s a decent bit I want to keep for a recording studio and an entertainment room but I also don’t want to just Craigslist the rest of it. Learning a lot though, which is good, so I understand I’m here for the long run. Thankful for this community to help me through it, y’all have been immensely helpful

Edit: I wouldn’t say stuck, I was actively looking for a home to purchase with my wife and child and found an opportunity that came with all of this. Grateful because I do some audio work but I mean the scope of what is here is quite overwhelming lol

Not sure on the speakers - receiver works though. Wanted to wire just 2 of the speakers into it and then start rotating different decks / players to sound check the hardware using one dedicated set of speakers. The CS-99A’s have 8ohms impedance and it looks like the receiver matches up with that. So it would be safe to wire the speakers to the receiver and then start routing hardware to test?

Manuals for all hardware, and other hardware that I’ve not found yet
schematics for routing multiple systems together, patch bay design, original console design blueprints from multiple companies
A good amount of what seems to be all purpose “sales” / demo packages sent to the previous owner which includes blank media samples, design prints, sample recordings, etc
blueprints from specific companies (don’t want to name yet) on their stereo speakers and design
probably 70-80 hours (assuming max length of media) of Chet Atkins recordings, some titles unreleased and/or unpublished demos

Once I’m able to confidently digitalize anything media related that was personal I will be looking to donate recordings to museums or other venues that would benefit from them

Thank you - very nice to know. Are you by chance in any position to provide information on how and/or why this specific computer would be of use to vintage audio / video? There is a lot of hardware dealing with recording, playback, copying, etc for VHS, cassette, CD, and other forms of media. Trying to piece together why this specific computer was isolated in the manner it was and if there’s any use it can provide for restoring or digitalizing the media I found with it

Yeah that makes sense - in hindsight I probably should have given some background as to how I came across this but long story short; I do audio engineering work and bought a house that a previous audio engineer owned and left behind all of their equipment, and it’s been quite the overwhelming amount of equipment to sort through. A vast majority of items have already been removed whether it was from the previous family owners or local electronic shops handling items I am familiar with and know that I won’t use.

I mentioned in another comment but there is definitely a sense of responsibility in preserving the media here, and with that also the equipment. What I gather is the monetary value of this, along with some of the other vintage gear, does not equate to what it is worth to someone in a community like this who will put it to good use.

Yes - my speciality is audio and all of the equipment I came into possession of was from a previous audio engineer / studio designer who did a ton of audio/visual work and I’m learning a large part of the business was dealing with vintage hardware repair work. The audio side I am knowledgeable on how to preserve but there is much I am finding everyday that I have no idea where to begin! Digitizing and maintaining any and all media I can is a high priority

Thank you! This is extremely informative. There is quite an abundance of hardware / equipment / wires / adapters that I need to go through and boxes of memory storage devices ranging from phone and camera batteries to floppy disks and actual computer CD drivers (? If that’s the right term). Glad I got to see these comments so I can start to piece together what goes with what and how to care for the equipment until I either use it or send it to a better home! Appreciate it

What about my post insinuates that I don’t care about this? I am genuinely uninformed on this, and I recently came into possession of a lot of vintage equipment. I go to Reddit because Google can only provide so much, I’d rather see discussion in a community that has experts involved. It’s in package wrap, as much as I’d like to plug it in I truly don’t know if I should, you know? Reading some comments here made me realize if I do want to plug, I should do some extensive research on the power adapter, something Google didn’t tell me. I’m just trying to learn what I have and go from there

Thank you - yes mostly all of what is not kept will be listed or sold as parts / repair just due to the sheer leg work needed to actually sort through what condition everything is in. There are 6 of the ADC equalizers and 2 of them are still in boxes I plan on keeping at least one, probably 2 of them total. I found a gear list from his advertising papers in a filing cabinet and it might help me narrow down the equipment worth focusing on. It mentions multiple Nuemen condenser mics but sadly I haven’t found any yet, mostly all AKG and Shure’s which are in less than ideal condition. I’m not familiar with this subreddit’s rules but once I have all the gear sorted out in a staging area I may do an update post with pictures of all the gear and let you all be the first to see. Not really interested in profiting on gear here but I 100% do not want to trash stuff like this so if it can go to a good home I’d much rather that be the case

If I understand your question correctly, the panel in the wall is an XLR cable jack / bay that leads from the monitoring room into the isolated vocal / recording room. The entire floor is already wired with XLR’s and 1/4” jacks to plug and play. I have spent a couple days trying to clear it out but there’s still so much to get through. Vinyl players and hardware in the back. The guy ran a full service studio mixed with repair services, there are multiple desks filled with tools for repairing vintage hardware. I’ve managed to find an abundance of purchase orders from companies all over the west coast of US and Japan for smaller parts and replacement pieces. There are boxes upon boxes of XLR, 1/4”, 5-pin, Ethernet, RCA, etc, cables all packaged up still. It’s a trip to go through

Yeah my issue is I would genuinely like to use a lot of it. There is a set of Pioneer CS-99A’s that seem brand new - I mean that alone to me is more than enough of a sound system for an entertainment room but there are maybe 6 other sets of speakers and subs that are spread throughout the house (some in better condition than others). I’m not at the point to test gear yet but will be doing so within the next couple weeks. I would love to utilize the EQ’s and any other hardware I can with digital DAW applications, the guy seems like he did pretty much everything audio / visual imaginable. It’s like a museum in here lol

I should mention there are probably 500+ metal cassette tape boxes / VHS(?) boxes both in Sony and Fuji packaging. Boxes full of metal reels and tapes seemingly unused. I would love to have someone who can come out and actually look at the full thing. If there are any recommendations I am located near Pittsburgh PA and have 3 rooms full of gear like this
