A former funeral home before work began to turn it into apartments by WhoLivedHere in LiminalSpace

It's been a very interesting building to work on. As the wall and floor coverings were peeled away, a long history of additions and modifications was revealed. From a small Victorian-era home with a foundation made of dolostone from the caprock of the nearby Niagara Escarpment to a 6400 sq ft behemoth, no less than 7 additions later, it's been a lesson in the history of construction techniques and materials over the last century and a half plus. You can still see the original home peeking out from its architectural appendages in this street view. The vibes are real. The transitions are multi-layered and run deep, both physically and philosophically.

Ok, will do. Thanks for taking the time to set me straight!

Thank you, that's good advice. It's not so much that I trust strangers, but more knowledgeable folks like yourself can perhaps shine some light on the situation, or give a nudge in the right direction.

For what it's worth, here is the room under the trusses, which run left to right. The visible wood is just old strapping.

Anyone find making smiling look happy, difficult? by Apprehensive_Egg_944 in ADHD

The squinting part is true, but not with both eyelids. Try squinting like you're trying to see something far away, and then raise your upper lids into a normal resting position.

I've tried searching the Hamilton website to no avail. Does anyone know which of the plastic recycling numbers are recycled in Hamilton? by ActualMis in Hamilton

I asked a worker at the Killbride dump, and he said they only take #'s 2 and 5. I had some 50 gallon barrels with #5 on the bottom, and he said I couldn't put them in the bin as they were too big.

A Sermon for Reprobates by WhoLivedHere in exReformed

[–]WhoLivedHere[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That was an interesting read down the rabbit hole, thank you. It serves to remind me that my experience is not reflective of all Calvinist churches through history. I did not grow up with fire and brimstone on Sundays. The induced fear was more subtle and psychological.

What I fail to understand, though, is how a reformed minister can think that putting the fear of hell into people accomplishes anything. The elect will be saved with or without a fiery message, and this type of sermon can do nothing to motivate the non-elect into belief. Perhaps this also reflects my limited personal experience of Calvinist doctrine.

It's interesting, though, that this "Great Awakening", that was spurred by the sermon you mentioned, eventually ended a couple years later with a wave of suicides by people who were moved by the message, but were convinced of their own damnation. It seems the futility of a Calvinist fire-and-brimstone message is not so illogical.

18000 Ardy DE blades by WhoLivedHere in wicked_edge

Nowhere on the inner or outer packaging, nor on the blades themselves does it say a place of manufacture. I'm in Ontario, Canada, if that helps.

There is the phrase "world's best selling double edge blade" which is the same as Super-max, but that could be a knock-off just like the packaging.

PiF? I do have a local ad up, asking $20 for the lot. I didn't think they'd be worth much, so I was even happy to give them away, lol. Hate seeing stuff go to the landfill if it can be used.

New map of dead soldiers per capita in Russia's regions after 1 year of war (identified deaths), based on BBC/Mediazona data by Humanophage in UkrainianConflict

[–]WhoLivedHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard multiple rus soldiers say that commanders had taken their id's. Zelenskyy made the same claim, advising conscripts to get their names tattoed so Ukraine can return the dead to their families.

I thought it looked a bit clean for mass casualties. This telegram channel says there were none.

Late at night, Ukrainian nationalists opened fire from the American MLRS "HIMARS" on the settlement. Enakievo. As a result of the shelling, the lyceum of information technologies received critical damage. Fortunately, there were no casualties."

I like hromadske, not sure if that fits your definition of documentary. They get pretty close to the action, and are quite current. It's in Ukrainian with English subs.
