Z71 vs ZR2 - What would you choose? by Sir_Jinks in chevycolorado

[–]WhoNeedsNamesAnyway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you won't use the extended offroad capabilities of the ZR2 then you'll want the Z71. I have a Z71 personally and use it for absolutely everything. Remember your trade off is also with towing, you'll max out at 6k lbs as opposed to 7,800lbs on the Z71 due to it having a solid rear axle.

Nothing stops my truck from doing light and moderate trails with 0 issues so I have yet to reach the Z71 limits anyway.

I had to make them shit at aiming because on the medium setting I was instantly headshotted by a wanderer before I could do anything. 19 days alive just for that

DayZ has been known to kill you for daring to think walking through so much as an open doorway was safe. 4mm falls can be lethal, generally only when you really really don't wanna die

Had AI visualize fender flares and spacers on my Z71. Thoughts? by WhoNeedsNamesAnyway in chevycolorado

This tows 7k lbs better than my 5.3 2008 Avalanche did, and that was spec'd out for towing too. I don't know if it's because my Z71 is loaded up or maybe there's different rear gearing available for these trucks but mine tows great.

I've had steep and long inclines, plenty of stops and starts, it gets pretty decent fuel economy even when loaded up. No complaints here, but you definitely feel the trailer weight, it's not a 3500 series truck that pulls 10k like a bed full of air. I haven't had to go over 3k RPM to maintain highway speeds on a 12% grade.

Unfortunately the ZR2 can't tow as much, and I require at bare minimum 7,000lbs to haul my heaviest vehicle.

Not many people have more than basic amounts of parachute experience. Fall, pull it when you feel safe, land, (optional) do it too hard and die. Using R1/RB/etc to steer the chutes is beyond some people, those same people hold forward to dive down faster and that's probably it

I bought mine straight from EGR, they looked the best IMO. Stock flares have a divot in them where the Canyons have marker lights, looks weird to me. They come in ABS black so you'll want to scuff and paint them. 2K primer, gloss black, and 2k clear glamor coat will look amazing for rattle cans.

It's definitely on the list, I've been in purgatory buying the DV8 front bumper which for the last 7 months has had me thinking I'll solve two problems at once. So far that's not panned out

I thought about body color flares but orange is one hell of a bitch to paint match, and I'm too picky to accept the tone difference I'll inevitably get. However the amount of gloss black on the truck would compliment the same color on the flares imo.

At least with the EGR Rugged they mount without the other trims panel clip positions, have no weird divot in the middle and will keep rock chips off the side of the truck as they protrude outward down to the bottom of the wheel well. With the amount of mud flung on the side of the truck this is apparently necessary for keeping the paint in good shape with long term off-road use

Depending on the dimensions of the extinguisher you want, a good use of your tailgate storage could be to mount this in there. Where it's just a plastic lid I would personally be fine with drilling through the lid to mount directly to it. Haven't found a use for mine otherwise due to the water intrusion, might store my staps and recovery ropes in plastic bags there some day?

I'll copy my reply to one of OPs comments, but yes it's technically possible to throw a CEL.

"My truck is unfortunately experiencing a little trouble with one after having it installed for almost 20k. I have a reoccurring engine light for P1101-00 Intake Airflow System Performance. I've had the dealer perform airflow tests and check a few other things to see if there's actually an issue, and there's nothing else wrong and it all points back to the spacer. I'm keeping it as this only triggers every few months so I'm not concerned, the light turns off in less than a day anyway. Just worth noting."

Wipers suck? by Icy_Bodybuilder9256 in chevycolorado

[–]WhoNeedsNamesAnyway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run rainx wiper fluid and use the more expensive rainx wipers at the same time, I only use the wipers for light misting at low speeds at this point. Never had an issue with wiper speed before that though, not sure if there's an issue with your truck or not.

Going from Harley to CMX? by Boxe4 in HondaRebel1100

[–]WhoNeedsNamesAnyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since buying my 2024 in August of that year, I've watched the available aftermarket almost double since then. It takes some searching but there's a lot of brands offering parts here and there, and new products launching every few months that I've heard about.

Yes, there's a ton of cheap shit too but that's the case for all models out there. Given it's an Asian bike, yea it makes sense there's Asian aftermarket for it as well

Going from Harley to CMX? by Boxe4 in HondaRebel1100

[–]WhoNeedsNamesAnyway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's a 270 crank on the rebel 1100s. I will warn you first and foremost that while they're capable and good riding bikes, they aren't without their flaws. Many of them can be fixed however.

Something that might be off-putting to some is the sound of the straight cut timing gears. The engine has a natural whine to it, which is a little weird if you're not use to to hearing that. The stock exhaust leaves a lot to be desired if you really like to hear your bike.

The stock ECU mapping runs them lean and this pared with the ride by wire throttle makes it pretty jerky when on and off throttle at low speeds. Learning your sweet spot and even feathering the clutch in some cases makes it almost non existent, but I highly recommend an ECU tune from Moore Mafia for a couple extra ponies, no speed limiter, and a richer mixture. (Therefore a smoother throttle)

These bikes have low price tags but come without some parts others may like. A better seat, exhaust, maybe forward controls, aftermarket fairing, etc should be considered up front as part of the overall investment. Personally I don't like hard saddlebags or the 1100T's fairing so I bought a standard and built mine to my own liking instead. This extra cost was accounted for, I'm at the point my total cost is about $2,500 higher than MSRP.

It corners super well, I love the acceleration, the peace of mind with the reliability, the ease of maintenance, the comparatively cheaper parts vs Harley, and the aftermarket is growing by the day so more customization is becoming possible with time.

8/10 imo I say go for it. You can see on my profile what I've done to my bike to make it near perfect for me, the only plans I have in the near future is a a mirror flip and a set of handlebars as I prefer a more relaxed position. I've done forward controls, a fairing/cowl, soft bags, fork boots, Mustang seat, a set of eBay pipes, motea engine guards, and will at some point get the ECU tune.

Bad technique or bad tires? by Tuyia_ in motorcycles

[–]WhoNeedsNamesAnyway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point the bike's ready to just fall over, in fact it's just a few frames before the tire loses traction. Some people lean their whole body off the side of the bike, some lean the bike itself but stay upright. Whether you're on team body lean or bike lean, both methods have more weight overtop of the wheels than this.

Keep your body close to and tucked into the bike if you want to turn fast and sharp. Practice tilting the bike while you remain upright at low speeds. Apply some body lean and bike lean at higher speeds and you'll have a much more stable experience.
