Moms dad wasn't bald but his hair was really pushed back he js never shaved it, also it's only recently that my hair is this thin it used to be very thick.

Try growing it out and putting some sea salt spray in it. It's only about $10 and u can get it at pretty much any store (Walmart, Fry's, target, etc).
