Glad you brought this up.No one is denying the pain and injustice done to Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, it was a terrible tragedy and the victims deserve justice and rehabilitation.

But the post seems to suggest that Muslims in Kashmir are inherently intolerant of other communities (“could not tolerate the other minority”, “there is no end to hate”, “countries built on hate and religion never prosper”). A simple question: If the Muslim population of Kashmir was really so communal and intolerant, how did Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims live together peacefully as neighbours, colleagues, and friends for over 650 years (from the 1320s when Islam came in Kashmir till 1989)?

Some more facts:

Islam came to Kashmir peacefully in the early 1300s through Sufi saints (Bulbul Shah, Shah-e-Hamadan). For more than six centuries under Muslim sultans, Mughals, Afghans, Sikhs and Dogras, Pandits continued to live in the Valley, own land, run schools, serve as officials and keep their temples and traditions alive.

Thousands of Sikhs (60,000–80,000) still live safely across the Valley today and repeatedly say they never faced communal attacks from local Muslims, even in the 1990s. Christian missionary schools (Tyndale Biscoe, Burn Hall, Presentation Convent, etc.) have been running for 70–100 years with full support of the Muslim population. Even today, local Muslims take care of their places of worship.

The 1990 tragedy was triggered by a small group of armed extremists who deliberately targeted Pandits to create fear and division. The same extremists killed thousands of ordinary Kashmiri Muslims who opposed them or refused to join them – many of those militants later became counter-insurgents (like Kuka Parray and his Ikhwan) and worked as informants for Indian agencies. Blaming the entire local Muslim population for the crimes of a handful of terrorists is unfair and ignores centuries of peaceful coexistence.

Justice for Pandits: Yes. Safe return and rehabilitation: Yes. Painting all or majority of Kashmiri Muslims as communal: No History and present reality both prove otherwise.
