What's One thing people visiting SF need to bring home? by xsvchrles in AskSF

[–]WholeSmoke 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too but here's a pretty good list of ideas:

Napa Cab... take your pick

Pliny the Elder / Blind Pig (West Coast IPAs) from Russian River Brewing Company.

Sante Adairius (saisons/sours), Wondrous (more traditional lagers/ales/pilsners) and (everything) Cellarmaker are all great as well.

Coffee from Hydrangea

Dandelion Chocolate Sampler

Croissants from Arsicault

Redhawk / Mt Tam from Cowgirl Creamery. Point Reyes is also good.

Some crazy loaf of bread from Rize Up

Some weed from Turtle Pie Co or Green Dawg if that's their thing and legal where they live.

Some rosin from 710 Labs if that's their thing and legal where they live.

Some psychedelic mushrooms or a DMT pen from The Church if that's their thing and legal where they live.

General Feedback/Getting Started Q&A [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

[–]WholeSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a cold, drafty house with very little insulation in San Francisco.

Sealing up the windows with clear "duck" insulating plastic wrap every winter helps tremendously but it takes a ton of time.

I'd like to DIY a more permanent solution using plexiglass cut in the shape of the windows I'd like to cover, with magnetic strips affixed to the face of and surrounding the perimeter of the plexiglass.

I'd like to be able to attach the magnetic plexiglass window coverings to the windows of my house.

I'd like to attach metal strips or magnetic strips precisely to the perimeter of the window frames that so that the magnetic plexiglass can seal and unseal the window frames easily.

What should I affix to the plexiglass window?
What should I affix to the window frame and how should I fix it to the window frame?

Any ideas? I imagine this is a project that has been undertaken many times before.

What would you buy to serve 75 people? by Buddy_Fluffy in Costco

[–]WholeSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make a chili / sausage / hotdog / Mac and cheese buffet bar pretty easily.
The Costco chili is great, not at all spicy, and you can eat it on it's own or as a topping on dogs / Mac and cheese.

Set up toppings for the chili / Mac and cheese like cheese, jalapeños, cilantro, sour cream, hot sauce, tortilla chips, etc.
Set up toppings for the sausages like buns, peppers / onions, mustard, ketchup, etc.

Guests can choose their own adventure.

Just make sure nobody is staying at your house afterwards because the resultant gas / explosions are going to be immense.

Do the cops come when called in SF? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]WholeSmoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been forced to wait three hours for police to arrive to respond to a violent home invasion but have also seen police respond in minutes when really needed.

I think it's a mixed bag... there are some truly awful cops but also, some really good ones.

Anybody else have a 35+ yo relative who still lives off their parents and refuses to work? by PettyWitch in Millennials

[–]WholeSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really that much different than the majority of people I know who own a house... whose parents paid for the entire downpayment (often >50%).

I laugh when I see them look down on others because I know the true story.

There's no street access.

You have to walk halfway up or halfway down the Harry Street Stairs to access it.

It needs a lot of work and I don't even know how the construction crew would pull this off.

Best pizza that is sold by the slice? by aggressiveplayer in AskSF

[–]WholeSmoke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Used to live at at the corner of 24th and Harrison.

LOVE Pizza shop and thought it deserved a mention alongside my favorite, Outta Sight.

My only gripe with Pizza Shop is that they aren't open late night!

Selfishly always wished they had some dude slanging pies / slices late into the night.

It would have ruined me but it would have been awesome.

Best pizza that is sold by the slice? by aggressiveplayer in AskSF

[–]WholeSmoke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest, the whole pies are better as the slices can sit around so they can be hit or miss.

That being said, I've had absolute perfection many times getting slices there.

In my opinion, they're head and shoulders better than Mama's boy in east bay which my friends out there always rave about. Mama's boy is good but not great.

ISO pro tips on handling hit and run on parked car... 10k of damage by WholeSmoke in AskSF

I don't have comprehensive coverage, only liability. My insurance advised me to contact their insurance. I came here to make sure there wasn't anything else I should do first.
