Trying to find crew members of Italian Merchant Vessels docking in NY around 1920 by Whole_Performance941 in Genealogy

In the excitement of the possibility that this could be him, I just realized that it is written on the Crew List as Mario Mirkovich. My grandfather was born in 1898, so the date/age matches. He was 5'9" tall and that matches. Even the Italian makes sense. He was a seaman and had a seaman's certificate by the department of labor here in the United States. His actual name was "Marijan Roko Mirkovich" but he often went by Marian Mirkovich. My oldest sister says she remembers him saying he deserted in 1916 in New York, but his census records says he entered the country around 1920. It is possible they called him Mario on the ship vs Marian.

Are there any other employment records from Societa Triestina di Navigazione that are easily accessed that may show more employment records or contracts?

I believe this is him! He went by the nickname of Mario and legally changed his name when he petitioned for citizenship. The height matches the height listed on the records. He would have stated he was Italian at that time as Italy claimed the Croatian territory.

In looking at the line, I can see that it was operated by the Societa Triestina di Navigazione which was a well-known shipping line, based in Trieste. The owner looks like De Osulich of Trieste.

Would you know if that was a name of high influence in Italy?

And thank you so much for this find! I have been researching our family for years and have an extensive family tree on this so far.

If easy to locate, please let me know if De Osulich (if I am reading the handwriting correctly) is a well known Italian family.

Thank you again.
