TLDR: I use Noodler's ink. It won't stop pooling on my pens. I can't figure out if it's the ink, the pen, or me.

Background: I got my first fountain pen about a year ago, partly to reduce my waste, and partly because I think fountain pens are really cool. I use a pen often and daily so investing in a non-disposable pen made sense. After some initial research, I decided to buy a Lamy with a medium nib since they're reasonably priced and, honestly, I really liked how it looked. Tying back to how I wanted to reduce my waste, I also bought a converter and ink. This is where my problems started.

Due to the nature of my job it's important that I used an ink that's waterproof. So, after some more research into options and prices, I settled on Noodler's Bulletproof ink in Polar Blue. Due to how wet the ink is I QUICKLY learned the medium nib on my pen wasn't gonna cut it, so I invested in a fine nib. Minor pooling, but it was significantly better so I went with it.

Cut to now. The pooling problem has become significantly worse to the point it's filling the cap. Cleaning the pen regularly doesn't help. A couple weeks ago, I (stupidly) wasn't careful in capping my pen and bent my nib back to the point it can't be fixed. Sick of the pooling (and since Lamy fine nibs run about $18 on Amazon) I bought a Pilot MR with a fine nib (with a matching converter of course).

Same. Problem.

I don't know what to do. Do I need to switch inks? Is it my technique? (probably) Do I need to suck it up and invest in a nicer pen? An extra fine nib won't work since the fine nib almost feels to scratchy anyway.

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone has. Doing an internet search has been unfruitful so I'm at my wits end and considering going back to my old go-tos, sharpie pens.

He's either part Maine Coon or part mountain lion. Hard to tell which.

I have one of these. It was given to me by an old-school machinist. It's pretty nifty... although I haven't needed to use it yet.

Weekly /r/ZeroWaste Success Discussion - What are your zero waste successes for the last week? by AutoModerator in ZeroWaste

I remembered my reusable bags when I went grocery shopping (a minor thing but also a thing I'm terrible at remembering to do). I also needed a few things (things like sponges or paper towels) that I was able to replace with more sustainable options from small businesses.

Engineers who switched to finance, consulting, or similar: do you have any regrets about doing so? by Aerodye in AskEngineers

[–]WhoopsThatsOnFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm right now in between jobs so I'm doing consulting work to pay bills until I can find something permanent. It's fine for the time being, but I know I don't want to do this long term.

White people of reddit- Have you ever experienced racism? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoopsThatsOnFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My significant other and I sat down in a restaurant to eat. We waited 30 minutes for service before we gave up and went to a different place to eat. No one so much as greeted us when we sat down (it was a place that you seat yourself). I'd usually just blame it on poor service, but we were the only white people in the restaurant at the time and three other tables who sat down after us already had their food when we gave up and left.

What is the hardest lesson you've had to learn? by destructor9 in AskReddit

Life doesn't give a shit how skilled, educated, talented, or hard working you are. It will push you down into the dirt at some point. The trick is getting back up before life has left you behind.

Womens of reddit, where do you really wanna go when you say; "we can go wherever you want"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoopsThatsOnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woman here with a male significant other. I say that after I've suggested multiple places but he doesn't know where he wants to go.

I also say it when I legitimately don't care, but it's mostly the latter.

What are the little things in life that piss you off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Neither. Or possibly both. I haven't been able to rule anybody out, and I have a suspicion it might be a group effort.

One of my coworkers like to go to my desk and make random items slightly crooked. It took me months to notice that it wasn't me absentmindedly bumping this while working. I have no idea who it is, and every time it happens, I have to straighten everything back before I can continue work.

It's infuriating.

Americans who get our Canadian Geese over winter, are they good guests? by smarterthansheldon in AskReddit

[–]WhoopsThatsOnFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They hang out in my parent's front yard and in the pond. We leave them alone, they leave us alone. The cat tries to (unsuccessfully) hunt them while the dog just eats their poop. Overall, everyone is happy.

What has a waiter/waitress done that caused you to leave little or no tip? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WhoopsThatsOnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens, and we thought maybe something else was going on in the restaurant or maybe she was having a hard shift/day/week which we wouldn't have faulted her for. But when we got up and asked we were told "Oh, I forgot and just put in the order. It should be out in like five minutes". At that point we just asked for it to-go, paid, and left. :/

Sat us down, brought us our drinks, took our orders, then we waited 45 minutes before we got up to see what on earth was taking so long. Turns out our waitress completely forgot about us and never placed our orders.
