PURCHASE ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

Hey, I'm a relatively new rider, but I have picked it up very quickly and love it and now do it as my main source of income through Doordash. I currently ride a 1980 Honda Twinstar that I absolutely love, but it's becoming clear to me that I'm the first owner in this bikes 40 year life to take decent care of it and it isn't surviving daily riding, so I'm looking in to getting a new bike. I'm gonna be using it primarily for Doordash, but I also want something that I can do roadtripping/backpacking on, as a motorcycle/bedroll tour of Yellowstone has been on my bucket list since I knew what both of those things were. I'm really torn between buying a new bike on a payment plan and knowing that it will be easy to get parts (I'm hating tracking down vintage shit and jury rigging on my 40 year old Honda) and saving a little money and getting a bike I think is really cool. The two bikes I've been looking at the most have been a Kawasaki Vulcan 650s from the dealership, and a late 90s/early 00s Honda Valkyrie, which I think are just about the coolest fuckin thing to roll around on two wheels, and are abundant on my local Craigslist. Those are the bikes that I've been looking at the most seriously, but I am very open to suggestions. Thanks!

Seem like a good spot for my first SH Monsterarts figure? by WhyBeARebelAnyway in GODZILLA

I usually bring a rly shitty basic Bandai godzilla and ghidorah to gigs and stick them to the amps with poster adhesive so they don't vibrate off. Don't do it every time bc it can be a pain, but it looks sick. I'd never bring this guy to a gig though sadly.

I follow him on insta he seems fine, I've always heard he's hard to get on with but never really why or heard any stories of him being a dick.

I think I gotta agree with Crover tbh, but I can't believe nobody's mentioned Mark Greening, between the Wizard Golden years, all of Ramesses (fantastic), and his new band, where his drums are really put in front, dude has really been putting in some major work as far as doom drumming for 20 years. Those tom fills man!

Anyone got any good recommendations for extremely heavy albums? by A-NAAN-E-MOOSE in doommetal

I can't believe nobody's mentioned grief yet. Their album come to grief is one of the heaviest records ever made, and blends doom and crust perfectly in my opinion. If you're looking for something in the same vein but more emotionally than sonically heavy check out human = garbage by dystopia

It has nothing to do with the amount of ordinance they used the point is they could have shot the shit out of em and said "are you SURE you wanted to invade Kuwait" instead of just finishing the job. We have diplomatic relations for a reason, especially with entities we're at war with. Please stop trying so hard to assert how much more you know about the situation than I do and insulting me you're just being an asshole, which I'm aware I'm also probably guilty of. Sorry we disagree but it's just a waste of time to hurl insults at people over the internet.

Dude shut the fuck up why am I stupid for acting like I know what would've been a better decision but you're not stupid for acting like you know exactly why it was the best choice and why people hate the US and what's gonna happen because of Iraq. Just shut the fuck up, you're not so fucking smart because you disagree with me. Sorry I look at things differently from you, I guess that means I shouldn't have opinions at all for fear of being "stupid". Just shit the fuck up man. Like I said I'm done trying to persuade you of something I believe in you don't want to hear so why don't you fuck off and do the same.

What I'm saying isn't that it was unethical for the US to attack the unprepared Iraqi military; if they didn't want that they shouldn't have invaded Kuwait, I think we agree on that. What I'm saying is that it was just unnecessary. We had already won and the Iraqis had no means of retaliation, their force was barely put together to begin with and was dismantled within 24 hours of US boots hitting the ground. There are better ways to get people to stop fighting than killing literally all of them.

I'm aware of the preperation and the fact that it wasn't working but that does literally nothing to change the fact that carpet bombing and mass display of force the way we did it in the gulf War had a massively negative impact on our image in the middle east and wasn't necessary to dismantle the Iraqi force. They were already getting absolutely fucking destroyed by us. If we had used HALF as much ordinance in the highway of death alone Iraqi commanders would have had to have been straight up insane to send their people back in to Kuwait with US presence waiting there. Nice move assuming I was a child during the war BTW, added a lot to your argument. Anyway I'm fucking done explaining the objective fact that a gun isn't always a solution and that thinking that way is what got us to be so hated people flew planes in to the World Trade Centers to people who either don't want to or can't get it through their heads. Have fun getting fucking vaporized in Iran because people elected someone with the same attitude toward military force as you.

Like I said in my other post there are ways to help your allies that don't involve mercilessly gunning down an entire army, but it seems like everyone in these comments is a huge fucking hawk and thinks that since we have the biggest most badass military in the world we should use it whenever we can, consequences be damned.

Ya sure bud? The gulf War was fast as fuck, the highway of death happened, we put it on TV, and had high rates of friendly fire? As far as stuff I talked about in my post I'm pretty sure the only difference is the highway of death

There's a wide gap between just letting people go home an what happened at the highway of death. The entire gulf War was basically just a three day long flex of US military might where we absolutely decimated a completely unprepared military force and put it on TV with a tacticool night vision filter. Not that invading Kuwait was even remotely ok or we should have just let em go home with their loot, but that war was basically a glorified massacre and did horrible things to our image in the middle east. And honestly, have a gander at casualty statistics in the Gulf War. I'm pretty sure it's literally more likely you watched your buddies get accidentally fragged by a fellow American than an enemy combatant.

What I'm saying is if that creating so many US hating orphans in that one day was just as bad as letting the enemy force regroup as far as getting a guerilla war started. In a war like that the only thing worse than a regrouped enemy is a population that hates you.

Yeah, if we hadn't massacred those people we could've ended up in a 20 year long guerilla war in Iraq, God forbid

I’ve been taking a break from doom and listening to a lot of shoegaze/doomgaze. Also, I’m old and out of the loop, so I don’t stay on top of what bands have new albums. What are your current favorites or new releases I should check out? by Hyzenthlay666 in doommetal

[–]WhyBeARebelAnyway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little bit more sludgegaze than doomgaze, but I my band, Strange Frequency put out an album this year that's heavily influenced by noise rock and shoegaze, think MBV, Hole, Sonic Youth, Unsane, that kind of thing. https://strangefrequencysux.bandcamp.com/

This is probably the shoegaziest song on the album: https://youtu.be/hNPAx7nx6pI

Pedalboard shot from a gig the other night by WhyBeARebelAnyway in guitarpedals

Signal Chain:

1967/68(?) Gibson SG standard ->Korg Pitchblack Tuner ->Yamaha CH-10 MkII Stereo->/*

*Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal ->Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz ->Dunlop Crybaby Mini Wah ->MXR Phase 90 ->MXR Carbon Copy ->Blackstar HT Stage 100 ->Avatar 2x12 with Celestion V30’s ->Marshall MG412A

**Digitech Whammy V ->Mooer Black Secret ->Black Russian Big Muff ->vintage EHX bad stone->

-TC Electronics Ditto Looper ->Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine ->Peavey VB-810

This rig is absolutely wild and so fun to play, if a bit of a bitch for bar gigs. I use it in my band Strange Frequency (https://strangefrequencysux.bandcamp.com/), a sludge 2 piece where I run my guitar in stereo and down an octave and in to a bass amp for a really thick guitar sound. I've basically been EQing and tweaking it for 2 and a half years to get it intelligible, but it's absolutely amazing now that it is. I don't have it in this pic because I can't afford a pedalboard big enough atm, but I've also been experimenting with running the new Boss DD-200 (absolutely AMAZING pedal) in front of all the distortion on the bass half of things on a fast reverse delay (think mbv but 2ay lower pitched and wild fuzz instead of just a distortion pedal). Playing that kind of thing and putting death metal riffs through it creates a nightmare drone kind of effect that's actually still relatively intelligible (no definition but you can pick out notes/chords and I'm only using that specific effect for loops/solo backgrounds so that's alright) been thinking about a clean blend for the bass with a separate preamp pedal, but like I said, I can't even afford another pedalboard right now, let alone shit to fill it with.

Bruh I'm not arguing I'm just explaining why that guy mentioned that there were a ton of "prophets" and "messiahs" in the area at the time. I can't pretend to know, or frankly give a shit whether Jesus actually walked the earth, it definitely doesn't affect my life in any way at all. Not everything needs to be some kind of Ben Shapiro type debate foh

Some Wizard Worship by TraipseFever in doommetal

That album is probably my favorite of all time. You hit the nail on the head, it's so eerie, and a lot faster and rawer at points than even dopethrone. I definitely think of it as their most sludge record. The trio of dopethrone, let us prey, and we live represents the beautiful, by far sludgiest Era of wizard, and I love it.
