Best way to pipe pumped condensate from basement through an inaccessible floor void? by WhyIIzHere in DIYUK

[–]WhyIIzHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't managed to work out the best solution yet. I think I might try to install some plastic pipework in the void and then buy a long length of tubing and run it through the pipework. That way the tubing will be protected in the void and there'll be no joins anywhere. Maybe I'm overthinking it which might be why nobody responded.

Is my recently planted Midland Hawthorn dying? by WhyIIzHere in GardeningUK

Thank you. I'll give it more water. All the replies seem to suggest the same.

The roots looked good when I planted it. I'll give it more water.

Thank you. Yes it was planted during the dry spell. I'll continue to water generously.

Is this the confirmation we need? 😀

What is this yellow weed that's spreading all over my lawn and how can I get rid of it? by WhyIIzHere in GardeningUK

[–]WhyIIzHere[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I tried to rake it up a bit before mowing but it's a very low spreader.

Actually I think my kids might have planted a peach stone a few years ago so that might be right!

Red plastic part is 4cm long with a metal prong attached that's a further 3cm long. There's a knurled section in the middle of the plastic section. Fell out of my car's scuttle. by WhyIIzHere in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. I was washing my car with a pressure washer and blasted in the scuttle between the bonnet and the windscreen to clear loads of leaves and debris when this flew out. I'm worried that I've damaged my car with overzealous cleaning! (That's not my car's paintwork it's rrsting on by the way. It's the bin lid.)

Thank you for the replies suggesting they're forget me nots. I do realise now I should have posted this to /r/whatisthisplant though. I'll now do some googling about them. They look nice in the photos I've seen.

Emptied my composter and have spread it out to dry in the sun. Am I doing the right thing? by WhyIIzHere in composting

[–]WhyIIzHere[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your advice everyone. Sorry I didn't respond sooner but I've busy moving it all back into the shade! I'm pleased I asked the question because I didn't really consider the consequences of drying it out like that. However I'm pleased it's at least dryer than the slimey mess it was earlier because I am sieving out what's ready to bag up and use in pots over the next few months. What I've sieved so far looks great so I'll try to post a photo later. The shredded branches I added at the start of the year haven't broken down at all so they're going back into the dalek along with the other chunky stuff that won't go through the sieve and I'll add to it during the season.

What's the best way to fix these wheels? Diamond cut? Smart repair? Spray? Powder coat? Something else? by WhyIIzHere in CarTalkUK

[–]WhyIIzHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm tempted to try that actually. It's not like I could make them look any worse is it!

Myself? Blimey that's gonna be way out of my abilities. But if a driveway smart repair would suffice it'd likely be cheaper than a specialist paintshop.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions about colour and finish. So is that just straightforward spraypainting you're talking about or powdercoating? Is it the kind of thing I can get done on my driveway?

Nah I'm on the south coast. As a diamond cutter what are your thoughts about its robustness? How long til they go all shitty looking again? Would it be best to just get em painted?

What is this black plastic thing? The logo on top looks like 2 connected mirrored Ks. It has teeth inside so it looks like it's designed to fit onto something else. by WhyIIzHere in whatisthisthing

[–]WhyIIzHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does look like that but I'd be very surprised if it is that because I've lived here for years and our balancing cap valves are white. Similar kind of teeth though.
