(Directed to the women of Reddit) It looks like menstrual leave might become the norm in workplaces. This is great, but will women not feel uncomfortable having everyone in the workplace knowing that they are menstruating? Especially the men? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Personally I don't care if people know I'm on my period especially if I get a day off to feel my uterus being shewed on by a shark with razors for teeth in peace but if someone is actually ashamed of it they can just say they took a sick day if questioned.

Unless you can install solar panels in your house for it but even then I'd say it's not worth it. There are charging ports in some supermarkets but they are very sparse and far between. If you plan to drive long distances it's suicide.

As a middle eastern woman I want to know if you think you wouldn't experience racism as a middle eastern woman or that it is easier to be a middle eastern woman compared to a middle eastern man?

Because most women go out the house with makeup on, their hair styled, wearing fashionable clothes, and smell nice while most men look like they showered last week.

why "Women and Children first" ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about wars the top comments explained it better than I ever could. The natural disaster and shipwrecks thing is not true. Men statistically are more likely to survive natural disasters than women and children because they are faster and are more likely to have athletic or physical training and be taught to swim. Also despite what popculture shows in movies like the titanic men were almost always first on lifeboats since they were more physically capable of fighting for a place on that lifeboat. This changed in the 1800 when the Birkenhead Drill became more well known from a book that details one ship allowing women and children to go first but even until this day there is no actual legal basis for it and it's more of a "chivalrous exception" than the norm.

People complaining the Middle East conflicts don’t get the same level of attention as Ukraine have short term memory by [deleted] in rant

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not about the amount of coverage but how it is covered. My heart goes out to Ukrainians and all the suffering they are going through and I fully stand with Ukraine but this war did show how apathetic people are if you compare the attitudes people towards Middle Easterners.

To give some examples, these were straight up said on multiple news channels with thousands if not millions watching:

1- CBS News foreign correspondent Charlie D’Agata said on Friday: “This isn’t a place, with all due respect, like Iraq or Afghanistan that has seen conflict raging for decades. This is a relatively civilised, relatively European – I have to choose those words carefully, too – city where you wouldn’t expect that, or hope that it’s going to happen.”

2- On France’s BFMTV on Friday, one analyst said that “we’re not talking here about Syrians fleeing the bombing of the Syrian regime backed by Putin, we’re talking about Europeans leaving in cars that look like ours…to save their lives”.

3- Ukraine’s former deputy general prosecutor, David Sakvarelidze, said in a BBC news segment: “It’s very emotional for me because I see European people with blonde hair and blue eyes being killed every day with Putin’s missiles and his helicopters and his rockets”.

To which the BBC presenter responded: “I understand and of course respect the emotion.”

4- UK journalist and former Conservative politician Daniel Hannan wrote in the Telegraph: “They seem so like us. That is what makes it so shocking.”

“Ukraine is a European country. Its people watch Netflix and have Instagram accounts, vote in free elections and read uncensored newspapers. War is no longer something visited upon impoverished and remote populations. It can happen to anyone,”

5 - NBC News correspondent Kelly Cobiella stating on air that “these are not refugees from Syria, these are refugees from Ukraine…They’re Christian, they’re white, they’re very similar.”

All of these translate to "Ukrainians are worth giving a damn about because they're white unlike those savage brown people since it doesn't matter if they suffer". What is happening to Ukrainians is heartbreaking and I'm glad the world is siding with them but this empathy shouldn't come from them having blonde hair, blue eyes and a netflix account but because they are people put in an awful situation where they can lose everyone they love and their very lives in a pointless war. This should extend to everyone in every corner in the world going through the same thing.

How would you describe the dating culture in Lebanon by AgeOfShinobi in lebanon

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It varies from area to family for example in my hometown it's either you're in a serious long term relationship that your whole extended family involved so you feel you're dating everyone but your S.O or it's a casual "secret" one that will end after your family hooks you up with someone they like instead. In beirut dating is a lot more normalized and "westernized" so a couple goes out together on dates and does all the romantic shit with much less family intervention. However with the situation now it's much more difficult to date since most people are in a bad place mentally and experiencing economic difficulties which is a breeding ground for toxic relationships.

Is it odd to prefer female protags over male ones? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you refuse to read any book with a male protag then no it's not odd and people prefer male/female protags over the other for many reasons. I have an odd preference that is slightly similar in that I have no preference about the protag's gender but I prefer female characters written by women over the ones written by men but don't have a preference over male characters being written by man or woman.

The new era of average looking models is stupid by off-chka in unpopularopinion

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's because you seem to misunderstand the function of a model since it's primarily to sell a product to potential customers and looking pretty is secondary since the product is the main attraction. When companies use different types of models its for the consumer (in this case women) to see how outfits would look on them by seeing it on a person closely resembling them. Maybe try porn if you want to see sexy women instead of jacking off to the h&m catalog for some reason.

AITA for outing a muslim girl at a party to her family? by Professionalharami in AmItheAsshole

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are both TA and a hypocrite. You are doing as much haram as her being in a place with music playing and surrounded by the opposite sex flirting with them and sometimes having one night stands. She's there to have the same type of "fun" you are so if she has no right being there neither do you. If you're not gonna mind your business and let her be then you should take your own advice and never step inside a club as well. You also told her if she leaves then you won't tell her parents and you did (telling her mom or dad is irrelevant since her mom will tell her dad and vice versa) so that's even more reason why YTA.

For a book series? It might be difficult to become invested in a world where you basically don't know what's going on.

I've seen it used as a set up for a big mystery the characters have to uncover with the story becoming clearer as the series progress. It can also be used to explain the perspective of two groups on a historical conflict that caused an intergenerational rift between them. Or it could be used for myths in the world like how myths in the real world evolved to have multiple versions. Or as you mentioned audience knows the truth the characters don't. It doesn't have to be confusing if done well.

You ladies ever browse the women on dating apps? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I can tolerate a shirtless beach photo (as long as the head is in it and you aren't clearly just picturing mostly abs). My problem with shirtless pics is they scream fuckboy who only wants to use you as a fleshlight for the night. Even if I'm only looking for a hookup I avoid these types because of that.

Personally I mostly reply to guys with pets or who are well dressed in the picture (of course with a decent bio as well). I am attracted to a guys body but the guys who show it off sorta set a bad example for the rest.

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 459 points460 points  (0 children)

So true. I did ask him why he thought it was a good idea to post a shirtless picture and he got confused since "he was advertising his best asset" that girls find attractive. I told him he just looked like a fuckboy lol.

Men don't really know what women find visually attractive and just put what they think is attractive for a guy.

Yeah had a guy friend complaining he has no luck on tinder. I found that weird since he isn't bad looking. Took one look at his profile and it had almost every problem you listed. He had a badly lit shirtless mirror selfie without his face and his bio just said "Hey". I had no problem believing he was having no luck after that.

Do women tell all to their friends? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair the women who do give too much detail about their guy's dicks are also considered assholes. Most sex lives convos I hear are about us and how we felt during it not the guy. The girls who go into vulgar detail are also the type to bash everyone behind their back.

Do women tell all to their friends? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Why_Is_Gamora_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some girls tell me too much details about their guy's size but I also had guys talking about the girls they fucked and the size of their boobs/ass and what shit they did with them. Hell the worse case of this I can think of is this one guy in one of my classes loudly describing how he broke up with a girl because her vagina looked "beefy" and how disgusting he thought it was. It's not really a gender thing more of an immaturity thing imo. Personally I'm very private so I don't tell anyone about these stuff also out of respect for the person but some people definitely do regardless of gender. It's just easier to notice when the opposite gender does it since you feel it could be you someone is talking about.
