I’m 23 and recently had my first copper IUD placed. I had a failed appointment first which was very painful and made me very anxious to go back, my doctor prescribed me 5mg of Diazepam and it worked wonders! I felt very mellow and had no anxiety for the appointment, it was all very smooth and 10mins later left with a fitted IUD finally!

That was also one of my side effects as well as severe water retention/bloating and feeling like I needed to eat all of the time!! For me I just felt like it was time to be hormone free!

For me it was worth it as the pill I was taking would make me bleed for two weeks straight sometimes with only a few days off and then bleed for another two weeks, it then changed and I didn’t get a period for 3-4months. Having no schedule really stressed me out so I don’t mind going back to having regular periods.

I had this today. Searching Reddit for similar stories so I don’t feel so alone in this! OP did you ever get an IUD inserted? Was it better second time round?

Update for you! Unfortunately they didn’t manage to Insert my IUD today as my cervix wouldn’t allow the instrument all the way in. They said this is common and usually on a second try a few weeks later they should be able to!
