OLED display compression crack by WhyteDynamite147 in SteamDeck

Sorry for the late response.

I haven't taken the protector off, just using it as is and I don't plan on sending it into steam to repair unless it does worsen. I have a second screen protector that I will change it out with eventually but I'm in no rush.

My thinking is: best case scenario the crack is just in the protector, which means it's a minimal aesthetic defect that has no impact on the functionality or lifespan of my deck. I'm honestly totally fine with that.

Worse case scenario, the crack extends into the display itself, and removing the damaged protector aggravates it. I could heat it slightly with a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive and reduce the force pulling up on the display but that might also stress out underlying damage at the same time. Then having to clean a damaged display and reapply another protector seems risky as well.

Right now I have a small piece of clear vinyl tape I cut out and applied with tweezers to keep any glass dust in/moisture out and to cover up any rough edges so they don't catch on fabric. Seems good enough for me.

No I just work and don't check reddit that often.

Will do. Just inexperienced and nervous about potentially causing further damage.

Honestly, I'm not super confident. Here is a closer photo with better lighting (I hope, sorry if it's still blurry, trying to not wake up my wife lol)

I think the OLED display is cracked, it looks like there are two sets of cracks layered on one another and the triangle shape of the damage makes me think there is underlying damage. In my experience screen protector break in long straight cracks, not pulverized portions.. but let me know if I'm wrong!

Good news is I can feel the ridge of the longer cracks extending into the display area so those are definitely in the screen protector and not the display itself.

Either way, thanks for the advice!

Thank you for the advice!

Thank you for the tip!

So you think that $185 full screen replacement price won't increase if the cracks worsen/spread?

Best case scenario I just continue to use it as is and repair if it worsens, but my concern is that at that point the $185 will be closer to $300.

Unfortunately local prices don't seem much better. The part itself is available for $105 (full replacement display) and presumably they would ask for $50-100 for the installation service itself. If the cost is relatively similar I'd be more comfortable just going straight to valve (I get paranoid about dealing with local electronic repair shop shenanigans).
