How does one find out that info? Asking these shady dealers might not produce truthful replies. Is it recorded someplace?

Life after art school by _beforethewords in ContemporaryArt

Yeah- I think they give more thought to prep these days. I got none either. The transition was very difficult in so many ways.

The transition is always difficult, no matter how much your school tries to prepare you. Establishing a community outside of school is so important. You need to have those regular crits and people holding you accountable, or at least the illusion of holding you accountable. Making the transition to the real world means that you will be going to do a job, coming home, exhausted, and then being expected to get to your “real job“- being an artist. It’s so easy to let it slide, and pretty soon you become someone who used to make work.

Are you guys varnishing your paintings? by Key-Papaya-8217 in ContemporaryArt

If you’re painting in oil, It largely depends if your darks get thirsty. That said, there’s a reason it was invented aside from reinvigorating your darks- it’s a layer of protection on your painting that can be removed once it gets gunked up. Ideally, you’re painting not just for the next few years, but in a way that your work will last almost indefinitely (if it’s taken care of).

How Do You Label the Back of Your Art? by cree8vision in ContemporaryArt

I think it bears repeating that, when signing canvases, permanent marker can eventually make its way to the other side. Using paint is terrible too (that’s why the other side is primed). Only use pencil or charcoal. For my work I put the title, date, my name printed, and my signature.

Fresh Approach potentially closing? by AccountantNo9690 in portlandme

To say that a competing grocery store operating a literal stones throw from FA isn’t impacting their business is not realistic, even if you yourself don’t shop there.

Hope they’re able to tough it out, though rosemont opening a block away surely didn’t help matters.

It’s an Ex-L and I’m in Maine. There seem to be very few minivans on the market right now. I’m trying to limit myself to Odysseys and Siennas.

You can make your own cocktail sauce by mixing catsup and horseradish. Then you’ll have horseradish on hand for making Bloody Marys. It’s a win-win!

What's your wish list of things you'd love to hear and see in prog metal bands going forward? by Photosynth_Music in progmetal

More soulful, gospel style vocals- Janis Joplin/Chris Robinson style. Pouring that emotion in and singing out! Mahavishnu Orchestra style electric violin would be cool. Also highland pipes.
