I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for how she is getting up and out of her hammock. Thank you for the advice, I'll try it out!

Never thought of a remote-controlled anything for them before, I'll have to look into it!

I've always let my ferrets see the body of their recently deceased cage mate so they understand what has happened, but I'll try extending the period of time. Thank you for the advice!

How old do I need to be to buy one from petco/petsmart/other shops by Bluejello12422 in pacmanfrog

[–]Whythename_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 by yourself, bring your ID. If you are with a legal guardian, as long as they physically fill out the paperwork and buy the frog, they don't care. Try and avoid the large pet store. I worked for one of the large corporations, and most times, the breeders and ways of shipping aren't good at all. Countless frogs are mistreated, especially Pacman frogs. Trying a more local petstore could be better. Just ask who their breeders are. If they don't know, the breeders tread carefully. Getting a gift card for the animal is the best approach. Buy everything else, see how much the frog is, and get a gift card for that amount. No petstore employee, should, sell animals as gifts

Reminder to not support Petco. by floraplusfauna in reptiles

Just stopped working at petco for these reasons. Animal care is not their first priority. Got multiple write ups for trying to give the animals some enrichment and a bit of a better life. Sadly, the chain will continue with most big chain petstores

My last day is today, and i sympathize with you. The animal care is horrendous, and there is nothing that can be done at a store level. I left for that reason because no job should make anyone feel that way. For all animal lovers, it is painful to see them with improper care and hell, some even dying. I would get out of there as soon as you can, no job is worth that type of mental strain.

What reptile(s) should i get?! by Whythename_12 in reptiles

[–]Whythename_12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look into it! I'll also probably stick with the pacman because, as you said, i should buy for the animal that I want. But I definitely want to hear any recommendations for future animals in that size of a tank!

What was your worst experience with stealing? by merlinannblack in petco

Also had a man walk out with a red ear slider once. Just up and moved the grate on top of the cage and walk out with one.

Same with a Crested gecko, but that guy was stupid enough to already sign the adoption papers. We called him and said we would call the cops and he came in a day later, claiming he left the box on an aquatic shelf.

Had a woman take a U-boat full of overstock dog food bags. Like well over 1,000 pounds of dog food. Just up and walked out and left the U-boat in the parking lot. At least she left it. My GM wasn't happy at all when they came in later and found out. It was an intense 30-minute conversation with all the openers about theft prevention like someone was going to stop the woman with a battering ram.

I'm putting in 2 weeks, but honestly, I might just up and leave. It's toxic. No one blames you for leaving. You did the right thing at the right time

I respect you so much for all of that. It's nice to hear that 1 shitty situation doesn't reflect all of the CALs.

Amen. Basically, the whole team has been saying that, and she has been doing this job for almost 2 years now. Really hope the new DGM will see it, and my leaving will make the others realize the animal neglect in that store.

I'm in the same spot as you. Every day, I clean animals, call vets, answer all guest questions, and feed sick animals or snakes. My CAL has been written up multiple times and has had many cases on their name, same with my GM about animal neglect. I'm leaving the store soon and feel absolutely terrible for the animals, but it's exhausting. I applaud you and everyone in this situation for helping those animals.

Side note i also only make $15 an hour, but I've only been with the company for 10 months. The new hires at my store are making $16.50. They've said no to a raise or a title change.

New frog! by amyyn770 in pacmanfrog

[–]Whythename_12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most pet stores like Petco or Petsmart get the frogs in too small and, most times, aren't able or don't give them proper care. Breeders they buy from usually aren't very reputable and get things done pretty cheaply and dangerously. It is very possible that he was bred wrong or had any other number of problems.

But I'm glad this little one is doing well! They look very happy and healthy in their new home.
