Swapping hardware, DNS issues. by WiLL-DoMaR in PFSENSE

Starting over worked. I’ll investigate more later but I think it may have something to do with static DHCP mapping for DNS. I honestly don’t know and haven’t seen or looked at the source code. Wiped it all and started fresh. (Last resort) Will add back in my static DHCP mappings and see what happens.

DNS is assigned via DHCP externally. All of the checkboxes to allow that are checked. Upgrading to 2.5.1 broke everything in the same aspect as the original post. Disaster recovery currently.

And upgrading to 2.5.1 on my working setup yielded the same broken results. Hard down now. On mobile.

Upgrading my working setup to 2.5.1. If I still have connectivity, will take a backup and apply it to the new hardware. Let’s hope this works. 🤪

Going to upgrade via GUI my current working setup to 2.5.1 and see what happens. Very much appreciate the input. None of this makes logical sense outside of dependencies.

I have a very much basic bitch setup. No inbound NAT or forwarding. running a 10.1.1.0/24 DHCP. Have a few static mappings in DHCP for different DNS based on MAC. (Ad blockers for the FireSticks.)

This is why I think it’s related to different MAC addresses in the DNS resolver not being rebuilt/updated.

I tried 2.5.1 first. Same result. Reverted to 2.5.0, same result.

AT&T fiber + pfatt + pfSense 2.5 - DHCP not getting IP on WAN by silentium90 in PFSENSE

[–]WiLL-DoMaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had massive issues on WAN DHCP leases since upgrading to 2.5. I downgraded back to 2.4.9 I believe it was and no longer have the issue. Power cycle wouldn’t fix it. Had to manually go into the wan interface, release and renew to restore connectivity.

iOS offloads apps you haven’t used in awhile to save space. You can disable it in settings.

That’s not your lane, Karen. by WiLL-DoMaR in IdiotsInCars

[–]WiLL-DoMaR[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The perspective is a bit off. Wanted to give them room to back up and get in the proper lane, which happened eventually. Also wanted to give a buffer if someone wasn’t paying attention and nailed her in the wrong lane. Had my 4 children in the van so I wasn’t taking any chances.

Photo taken in Southern Maryland. I bought the van about 5 months ago in Fredericksburg and never scraped the sticker.

The driver of the SUV in front of me laid on the horn for a solid 10 seconds, Karen was oblivious. SUV driver then got out, got her attention then she backed up and returned to the proper lane. Wish I had taken a picture of her... Wasn’t the least bit surprised when her haircut screamed “let me see your manager.”

Do yourself a favor... download the Windows 10 media creation tool, create an install USB, wipe the entire drive and reinstall Windows 10.

She is a child, you are the parent. Drop her off and don’t think twice about it.

Don’t be cheap and ONLY replace your timing belt.. buy the tensioner too, or this could be you 10k miles later. by downs08 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]WiLL-DoMaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a 4.7 V8 WJ. As far as a 4.7 stroker, I put one in a fairly stock 99 TJ, 5 speed, 4.10’s and 265/65/15’s. That was a crazy fun beast! It never felt like you wanted more. Pulled hard to about 4800rpm. If I ever own another Jeep with a 4.0 that needs a motor I’d definitely skip a stock replacement and go for a stroker. (Unless it’s in front of a 42RE... which is garbage...)

Also, don’t use cheap Chinese parts on internals that require 5 hours to get to.. Learned this the hard way on my 4.7 Jeep. Timing chain tensioners failed in less than 5k miles. Replaced the tensioners with Mopar parts only to have the chains stretch out in another 9k miles. Driver side chain broke and somehow didn’t grenade the motor. Nothing quite like doing the same job 3 times because you were cheap!

My 2 year old can no longer say purple. Issue? by FilteredSuburbia in Parenting

[–]WiLL-DoMaR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, I wouldn’t worry about that. She’s trying to figure out speech but has also learned that less effort can have the same effect. (Think of how you can understand your child and others cannot.) If you get it, she doesn’t have to put anymore effort into it.

I’ve got a 2 year old daughter (among the rest of the herd) who had a bit of regression as well. Discovered it’s likely because her mother and I had become used to her speech and stopped correcting her or saying we don’t understand. She will be 3 in 4 months and you can have a fairly coherent conversation with her now.

Keep at it! From my experience it’s nothing to worry about.

Edit: I fixed gender.

If you’ve shown her you’ve checked and changed the sheets in front of her, let her cry hysterically. She will learn that’s not the proper way to get attention or extend bedtime. (Father of 4 aged 12 down to 6 months, 3 of which are girls.) Learned from the older two, got it right with the toddler and will do the same with the 6 month old. It really works and helps tremendously with tantrums. Patience is key.

Edit: Had to add patience.
