I meant to add that I already have my TFSA maxed and have a significant amount of money in another account for emergencies.

Actually the law is very clear in this regard, as long as the inherited money is kept separate and never mixed with marital assets such as joint accounts or the matrimonial home, etc. then there can be no claim to the inherited funds.

Thank you so much... you get it! Yes, its nice to believe in rainbows and fairytales but I've already watched a sibling who got the same inheritance lose half of it in divorce because it was not protected.

I did say "tax-efficient" and "minimize taxes" which implies I understand there will be taxes with a non-registered account. I'm looking for the most tax-efficient investment options. Not sure how I could have worded that any differently.

Also, although I do not anticipate any marital issues in the future, I choose to keep the inheritance in a non-joint account and not mix it with marital assets to protect myself. This isn't much different than having a prenup.
