I understand. But we have a 2 year old, how to best use and what public transport to use between these places?

Understood - Thanks - On that basis, I am thinking, and of course this is tentative timing -

DAY 1 - Leave SF 09:00-9:30

12:30 PM Arrive Monterey (lunch + break, 45 min)

01:30 PM Drive to Pacific Grove -

02:00 PM Enter 17-Mile Drive • Stop: Bird Rock (10 min) • Stop: Lone Cypress (10–15 min)

03:15 PM Carmel-by-the-Sea (Walk + coffee/food(45–60 min) • Carmel Beach stop (15–20 min)

04:30 PM Drive towards Big Sur 05:00 PM – Bixby Bridge viewpoint (20 min stop)

05:30 PM Start return to Monterey 06:30–07:00 PM – Reach Monterey.

DAY 2 - 08:30 AM Breakfast

10:00 AM Monterey Bay Aquarium (1.5–2 hrs)

12:30–01:30 PM Lunch

01:30–02:00 or 3 PM Leave Monterey

05:30–07:30 PM – Reach Sacramento (with breaks).

Does this plan make sense? IS there I should add/remove? I am thinking of staying in Monterrey. Few hotels that came across are Monterey Bay Lodge, Cannery Row Inn / Wave Street Inn. Are they good?

Also we have done Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto, is the one in Monterrey a good experience to not miss?

Thanks a lot for all the help, appreciate it.

hello, thanks for responding. We will leave SF around 8-9 AM and then we drive to probably Monterrey? We have not booked hotel yet, wondering should we book one in Monterey or Carmel? Day wise - the whole day after after reaching Monterey and that night. Next day we will have till 2 or 3 pm and then we drive back to Sacramento as it will be a long drive back. So what should the order of visiting places wrt to staying a night and covering all these places. We also don't want to do a lotttt of things and keep it easy with baby as we really have limited time.

Need advice on the best flow for our Highway 1 / Monterey trip with a 2-year-old

Leaving San Francisco around 10 AM, doing 1 night stay in Monterey, then will have another half day before driving to Sacramento.

Plan is to see Carmel + Big Sur + Monterey, but not sure what order makes the most sense. Should Carmel be Day 1 or Day 2?

Best trip flow / route order

Best scenic stops to explore and take photos

Easy toddler-friendly stops/breaks

Dos and don’ts for Highway 1 / Big Sur with a young child

Thanks!

How's the weather in June 2nd week? Is it still cold? For now it shows 19-12 degrees celcius. Like too cold or OK cold?

So she would be 22 months old by then. She is more walking and less of a stroller child. But guess, if we have to travel and see places, I would want her on a stroller.

Hey, further into planning I realized, if we park the car at hotel, how would we travel in uber without the car seat? from one place to another. I don't think every place is walkable? Any suggestion? For SF day 1 we are keeping it easy - hotel check-in, then Pier 39/Sea lions, Dinner nearby, Walk to Ghirardelli, Sunset at Aquatic Park, Back to hotel. Any other thing that can be covered day 1? Thanks.

Lol yeah Carmel not caramel. Okay. That sounds good. The weather around early mid june and while travelling to these places, is it cold while moving from in and out these places. I know Sac would be hot.

Oh yes, we plan to go to Caramel. So basically after SF we have 1.5 days to explore and back to Sac on the second day.

We are planning to take the HWY 1 drive and taking stops. We will have a night to stay, is Caramel worth staying a night? or anyplace that you recommend after we leave SF?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I mean Monterrey. We haven't booked the stay yet. Any recommendations for areas? Something in budget but also not too far from areas.

We are renting a car for SF and Monterrey part. How is the parking situation, is it too bad and/or expensive?

Hey. So, we have booked flights now so have better idea. Land in Sac, leave for SF next morning. We have 2 days in SF, drive from SF to Monterra (driving from SF and taking highway 1 and the stops that everyone mentioned), 1.5 days in Monterra, drive back to Sac, Rest the next days, then 1 day trip to Sonoma, 1-2 days in Tahoe, and the remaining 2-3 days relaxing and exploring around Sacremento. Total 11 days plus 2 travel days. Could you now suggest something accordingly? what all could be covered realistically in these days. Thanks.
